With a massive subscriber exodus and a fall in stock prices, Netflix has been having a hard time recently. However, the streamer has been consistent in adding brand new titles in May 2022 which have found their way into the global charts.
Every week we bring you the ten most popular Netflix films across the globe as we aim always to provide the very Best of Netflix.
Despite the divisive reception, Rebel Wilson’s comedy flick Senior Year has occupied the top spot on Netflix charts for the second week in a row. Viewed for 62.4 million hours, the film stars Wilson in the lead as a 37-year-old woman named Ruby who has a juvenile 13 Going on 30-like moment after waking up from a two-decade-long coma, only to find herself overwhelmed with the desire of returning to high school to reclaim her lost title of Prom Queen.
Directed by Alex Hardcastle, the film incorporates various teen comedy tropes that slowly progress towards self-discovery and acceptance.
Starring Victoria Justice and Adam Demos, A Perfect Pairing has occupied the second spot with a viewing time of 33 million hours. While Demos became extremely popular for his well-endowed self in Netflix’s Sex/Life and came to be known as the “shower guy”, he plays a fairly decent farmer in the film who falls in love with an LA executive. While fans have compared Demos’ role in the film with the one he played in 2019 in Falling Inn Love, pointing out the similarities, the feel-good film seems to have caught viewers’ attention.
For the second week in a row, the harrowing Netflix documentary, Our Father has found its way back on the charts. Based on the true story of a controversial fertility specialist named Doctor Donald Cline, the film shows how the man had nearly 100 children after impregnating unsuspecting patients without their consent. The documentary is timeless, especially in the wake of the legalisation of abortion protest that is taking place in the United States.
Pete Davidson’s Marmaduke has found itself a permanent spot on the charts for a third time, having been viewed for 7 million hours. It is followed by the Colin Firth war film Operation Mincemeat which is based on a true story.
