Netflix’s popular British royal family drama series The Crown is currently gearing for the release of its penultimate fifth season in November 2022.
Amidst various controversies regarding the upcoming season- especially from the British monarchy who are upset and worried about the show’s biased and disrespectful dive into the tumultuous relationship between Princess Diana and Prince Charles- it has been revealed that one of the cast member’s sons is set to play a crucial role this season.
Dominic West has been roped in to play the middle-aged version of Prince Charles on the show, opposite Elizabeth Debicki’s Princess Diana. West’s 13-year-old son, Senan West, is set to play the young version of Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge.
The real-life father-son duo will play this complex dynamic in the highly anticipated upcoming season of the show. Seanan shall be making his acting debut with the role of Prince William. He will show the teenage years of the Duke.
Prince William was just 15 when Princess Diana passed away in the tragic Parisian car crash in 1997 along with her then-beau Dodi Al Fayed. Khalid Abdalla will be portraying Al Fayed on the show.
While it is unknown if the show shall portray Diana’s untimely demise, it will certainly delve into her relationship with Al Fayed as well as the surgeon Hasnat Khan, besides taking a look at her dwindling marriage with Prince Charles- much to the chagrin of the royal family.
Created by Peter Morgan, since the Emmy-winning show changes its cast every two seasons to keep up with the timeline, Imelda Staunton is replacing Olivia Colman to play the role of Queen Elizabeth II while Jonathan Pryce will be seen as Prince Philip.
The fifth season will focus on the trajectory of the royal family through the 1990s into the early 2000s. Talking about the sixth season, Morgan had said, “To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to present-day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”
The sixth season will focus on the early 2000s and the future of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
