Netflix’s upcoming star-studded space opera, Rebel Moon, directed by Zack Snyder, will be a breathtaking affair, as confirmed by the first concept photos shared by the filmmaker on his Twitter handle.
After his brief stints at Warner Brothers and DC Films Universe, Snyder has been immensely successful on Netflix with his 2021 films, Army of the Dead and Army of Thieves. Before making a return to Planet of the Dead, a sequel to the zombie heist film, Army of the Dead, Snyder’s next big project has an extensive ensemble cast.
Alongside Sofia Boutella, the filmmaker has now brought on board the likes of Bae Doona, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou and others. They will be joined by Justice League alum Ray Fisher, who played Cyborg and collaborated with Snyder before.
Co-written by Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, and Synder himself, the film will be influenced by Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. Rebel Moon was initially a Star Wars film pitch before Disney took over the franchise.
This sci-fi saga will see Boutella as a mysterious young woman who is assigned a daunting mission of locating mercenary fighters across the galaxy to put up a fight against the tyrannical Balisarius, who threatens to disrupt the peace of several galactic colonies.
Also produced by Deborah Snyder, Rebel Moon will commence filming from April 2022 to November 2022 and most likely aim at a 2024 release.
