Zack Snyder secures Netflix deal after 'Army of the Dead'

With the wild runaway success of Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, making it Netflix’s most popular original film of the year, the director’s production company, The Stone Quarry, has unsurprisingly been signed on to a two-year contract with the streaming service.

Snyder runs the production company alongside his wife Deborah Snyder and producing partner Wesley Coller, with plenty more projects in the pipeline from them, including multiple sequels and spin-offs to Army of the Dead. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Zack Snyder stated: “My goal and hope are to bring as much quality content as I can and do it on a giant scale…Big projects and big movies”.

His wife, Deborah, added that they had been eager to “find a partnership that was based on mutual respect,” stating: “The creative process works best when everybody trusts each other and you can take chances and be creative”.

Elaborating on their creative process, she commented, “For us, we don’t usually play it safe”.

Adding: “The content we make is a little bit edgier. And I think it’s important to have a good partnership and hear each other. And Netflix has given us a lot of freedom. But they’ve also embraced the idea of trying new things and not necessarily waiting for a success before moving ahead.”

Army of the Dead is just the first in the line of a whole series of zombie flicks, with a prequel movie called Army of Thieves on the way alongside horror anime series, Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, as well as a sequel to the original film.

Dedicated to bringing original properties to life, Deborah Snyder concluded by saying, “Zack is really good at world-building…We’ve done that with the comics for so long that to do something original is the ultimate challenge and we’re up for that”.
