'Army of the Dead' is Netflix's most popular film of the year

For a company that relies on data and statistics, Netflix are notorious for keeping their cards close to their chest, very rarely revealing viewing figures, unless of course, they’re reporting on a significant success story.

The streaming services quarterly earnings report has recently revealed that Zack Snyder’s blockbuster zombie flick Army of the Dead grabbed one of the company’s highest-ever view count with 75 million member accounts watching the film in its first four weeks of release. This ranks the film, which is one of Netflix’s most high-profile acquisitions to date, among the top 10 Netflix titles. Reporting 209.18 million global subscribers for the quarter, this means about 36% of users across the world watched Army of the Dead.

Not quite reaching the success of Snyder’s blockbuster, though still a mammoth success for the streaming service is Kevin Hart’s movie Fatherhood, clocking in views from 74 million member accounts. Together Fatherhood and Army of the Dead easily make up Netflix’s most successful films for the quarter, with the other film of note The Mitchells vs. the Machines, raking in 53 million views to make it the streaming service’s most successful animated feature to date.

Sweet Tooth, meanwhile, proved to be the most successful series in the second quarter with 60 million accounts tuning into the fantasy series, just ahead of Shadow and Bone with 55 million views and part two of Lupin with 54 million views.

Competition show Too Hot to Handle recorded 29 million views in its first four series, considerably lower than its previous season in 2020 that clocked in 51 million views. Season two of The Circle drew in 14 million views over four weeks, utilising a standard model of weekly episodes as opposed to Netflix usual approach which sees all episodes released at once.
