We are just a week away from the release of the highly-anticipated Stranger Things season four. The cast and crew have been constantly teasing us over the years ever since the fourth season began production.
The fourth season will arrive in two volumes, with the first part scheduled for a May 27th, 2022 premiere while the second part is slated to premiere on July 1st, 2022.
Executive producer Shawn Levy assisted the Duffer brothers, namely Matt and Ross, as they shot the episodes during the Covid-19 pandemic, taking a long time for the whole season to come to fruition. While it was a difficult wait, Levy has always promised that the fourth season will be “super worth the wait”.
Starring Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Sadie Sink, Joe Keery, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo and others, the fourth season will see the gang be split across three locations, namely Kamatchatka, California and Hawkins as they battle both metaphysical and interpersonal demons and grapple with the losses they suffered in the third season.
Ross Duffer and Levy, in an interview with IGN, revealed that the fourth season is “almost twice as long” as the third and that some episodes are longer than Free Guy and The Adam Project. Duffer also added that a certain episode could “be a really long movie”.
Levy echoed Duffer by talking about the two films he released during season four. He added, “We have multiple episodes that are longer than both Free Guy and The Adam Project.”
Duffer explained why the episodes are too long. To give more space for the character arcs to play out, he said, “We really wanted to give as many of our characters as we could their time to shine and to really work on their character development and their arcs, and we’ve talked about this being a very revelatory season, in that there’s a lot of stuff that we want to tell the audience about and reveal in terms of the Upside Down and what is really happening here in Hawkins.”
In her interview during the premiere party, Brown, too, talked about how watching the episodes would feel like watching “The Godfather after The Godfather after The Godfather”, thus indicating lengthy and equally intense episodes.
With five episodes arriving next week, the fourth season is the penultimate season before Stranger Things comes to an end.
