Why Eleven will not stop crying in ‘Stranger Things’ season 4

Stranger Things season four is one of the most highly-anticipated releases of the year. Ahead of its release on May 27th, 2022, the show premiered on Netflix’s 170,000 square-foot production studio in Brooklyn on Saturday, where the cast and crew gathered to give the viewers an insight into the events of the upcoming season.

Ever since its release in 2016, Stranger Things has been a resuscitation of the sci-fi genre and is the Duffer brothers’ nostalgic love letter to the enigmatic eighties.

Starring Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, David Harbour, Gaten Matarazzo, Sadie Sink, Winona Ryder, Caleb McLaughlin etc., the show has been a concoction of every child’s dream adventure comprising interdimensional travel, scary monsters, a corrupt system and strange experiments

After a gruelling third season, the fourth season trailer promises new monsters, scary events and incessant high school bullying. With the kid gang being separated for the first time in four seasons, the show will present horrors of the Upside Down yet again.

Brown had some interesting insights to share about her character, Eleven and her narrative arc this season. Talking about how it is the “most emotional season for Eleven”, Brown said, “I cry a lot this season.”

Eleven has shifted to California with the Byers family and is seen writing letters to Mike, her long-distance boyfriend, lying about how she has made friends at school while she is getting constantly bullied. Eleven has seemingly lost her powers in the third season and is seen leading a normal life which seems to be even more difficult for her.

Brown shared, “She’s powerless and trying to fit in at a new school and she’s trying to understand who she is and where she came from. She’s struggling with her identity and this is the darkest state she’s ever been in. She’s sad and I had to cry a lot. It was extremely difficult for me to cry so much!”

Brown has also talked about how this character arc is “influential and powerful” as it will help her reach fans and spread awareness about the consequences of bullying. She said that the viewers will definitely have a lot to learn from Eleven’s resilience and perseverance.

The show will also show Will and Eleven spending a lot of time on-screen together as they try to fit into their new life. The storyline will also see Lucas join the basketball team, Mike tries to find his calling in school, Max grieves the death of her brother Billy in the last season and Dustin finally finds his way around high school.

Each episode will be an hour-long and has been promised to be “worth the wait” by producer Shawn Levy

Stay tuned for Stranger Things season four which will begin streaming on May 27th, 2022.
