Netflix’s ‘The Crown’ Season 6 to begin filming in August

Created by Peter Morgan, Netflix’s polarising show The Crown has garnered quite a bit of controversy ahead of its fifth season premiere. Although the exact date is yet to be announced, the fifth season will debut on Netflix in November 2022. Ahead of its release, it has been reported that the showrunners are getting ready to film the sixth and final season in August 2022.

While Netflix had initially planned to end the show with five seasons, they reversed the decision after having an in-depth meeting with the producer of the series, Sony and the creator, Peter Morgan. They decided that a sixth season was of utmost importance to “do justice to the richness and complexity of the story”.

Since the show usually delves deeper into the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and provides an intimate insight into the royal family against the changing socio-political backdrop, it also touches upon various family secrets, scandals and more.

Covering the various decades in the Queen’s reign, the landscape keeps changing along with the actors. From Claire Foy being replaced as a young Queen by Olivia Colman, who played the middle-aged version of Elizabeth. Colman, in turn, has been replaced by Imelda Staunton to play the current version of the Queen. Similarly, other actors have been roped in to reprise the other important roles of Prince Charles, Princess Diana and more.

Emma Corrin was replaced by Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana and Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles is being replaced by Dominic West, whose son is set to play the role of Prince William

The fifth season has already found itself sparring with the royal family as it shall include various details regarding the tumultuous marriage between Princess Diana and Prince Charles before taking a look at the Princess’s tragic death. Much to the chagrin of the royal family, the season is also set to air the controversial Panorama interview

Season six is reportedly said to begin filming in August 2022. While not much is known about the location or production details, it is safe to assume that the final season will air by the end of next year and give an insight into the Queen’s current standing.

Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have signed a huge Netflix deal, we are keen to see them make a surprise cameo, if any!
