Five Netflix releases to keep an eye out for this week
From Josh Hartnett to Ben Affleck, Netflix has made October a full-fledged, star-studded affair. But if you think the arrival arc ends with these A-listers, you’re gravely mistaken!
While Netflix went all out with its elite catalogue last week, this one brings more than viewers can probably digest at once.
Instead of coming down hard and leaving you overwhelmed with an impossible watchlist, we’re spotlighting the titles worth your time.
If you’re struggling with the cleansing and curation, here’s a rundown of the five most important Netflix releases to keep an eye out for this week.
Five Netflix releases to watch out for this week
The Trap (Isabel Kleefeld, 2026)
Netflix plans to start the week on a high note with a psychological thriller very on-brand for October: The Trap. Directed by Isabel Kleefeld and scheduled to hit Netflix shelves on October 13th, the German thriller centres on reclusive author Lisa Konrad, who has been entirely homebound for the last decade after witnessing the traumatising murder of her sister, Anna.
But after staying shut inside the four walls, she sets out for her home for the first time in 10 years when she recognises the killer on television. However, Lisa’s plan to go out is not without reason. Driven by vengeance, she aims to lure the perpetrator using herself as bait. The Trap follows Lisa as she devises a high-stakes scheme to invite the man responsible to her home under the pretence of an interview to uncover the truth.
Hollywood Arts (Jonathan Judge, 2026)
Netflix invites you to a trip down memory lane with Hollywood Arts, the long-awaited spin-off of the hit Nickelodeon sitcom Victorious. Slated to arrive on October 15th, the Netflix comedy marks aspiring actor yet to get her big break, Trina Vega’s return to Hollywood Arts High School. As a result, she returns to the academic halls to fill in as a substitute teacher.
Although she initially takes on the role, hoping to cash in on her students’ resourceful and famous parents to launch her own career (quite selfish, to say the least), she soon clashes with a set of ambitious student performers before ultimately stepping up as their guiding lights. While Hollywood Arts brings back one of the most iconic Victorious characters of all time, expect more guest cameos from the original show alongside another confirmed returnee: Principal Helen.
The Storm (Josephine Bornebusch, 2026)
Also coming to Netflix on October 15th is a Swedish disaster drama: The Storm, directed by Josephine Bornebusch. The Netflix Original film follows Filip as he invites his close-knit group of university friends, along with their wives, to a dinner party at his and his wife’s palatial, newly purchased farm estate in Northern Sweden to celebrate his 45th birthday, only to get caught in a violent rainstorm.
As the ferocious storm intensifies by the minute, the guests end up trapped in the secluded estate, cut off from the outside world. Once the physical confinement gets to their head and panic takes centre stage, their civilised facades unravel under pressure, spiralling into an unfiltered, chaotic meltdown and uncovering long-buried secrets, betrayals, and deep-seated grudges.
The Diplomat (Alex Graves, Simon Cellan Jones, and Liza Johnson, 2023-Present)
Perhaps the most anticipated Netflix Original release of the week is The Diplomat‘s fourth season, also releasing on October 15. In this season of the hit political thriller, two marriages are on the brink of collapse amidst a high-stakes conspiracy. As US President Grace Penn and Vice President Hal Wyler secretly join forces to steal Russia’s most powerful weapon, threatening the rise of a massive global conflict, the US and the UK find themselves dangerously locking horns with Russia.
But the secret scheme ultimately leads to another unlikely alliance, led by US Ambassador to the UK Kate Wyler and Grace’s husband Todd Penn, who try everything in their power to stop their spouses. The fourth season of The Diplomat brings equal parts friction and suspense, offering a story arc none of the instalments have seen before as the weight of political power and deception takes the upper hand.
Sacrifice (Romain Gavras, 2026)
The final entry of the week is the Chris Evans and Anya Taylor-Joy-starrer, Sacrifice, releasing on October 16th. Set against the backdrop of a star-studded charity gala packed with celebrities and A-listers from all walks of life, the mythical dark comedy centres on a movie star: Mike, struggling with an existential crisis who is abruptly taken hostage by a cult led by a radical warrior, Joan.
According to the group, a catastrophic volcanic eruption is imminent, and the only way to avert the disaster is by sacrificing three specific individuals who can save humanity. Sacrifice blurs the lines between performance and genuine belief, individual ego and collective salvation and modern superficiality and radical conviction, starting as an eat-the-rich comedy that evolves into the hardest psychological trek.
