Subscribers across the globe seem more or less ready to pull the curtains on August, but Netflix? Just not yet!
Although sneak peeks of September releases have viewers on cloud nine, August is far from over and demands viewers’ undivided attention now more than ever.
Netflix is single-handedly planning to deliver the thrills this week with back-to-back mysteries that promise to hit home. While at it, the streaming giant also intends to balance the mood board with a laugh-out-loud sitcom – the one that viewers have been waiting on for a year.
So, for those ready with pens and paper, here are the five Netflix releases to keep an eye out for the week ending August 30th.

Death of the Pastor’s Wife (2026)
Netflix is kick-starting the weekly marathon with a high-stakes true-crime documentary, Death of the Pastor’s Wife, which explores the April 2024 death of 30-year-old Mica Miller. Releasing on August 26th, the three-part Netflix documentary details the shocking true story of Mica’s death, which was quickly ruled as a suicide when she was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at Lumber River State Park in Robeson County, North Carolina.
But despite the official ruling, the case took the media by storm when allegations of severe psychological abuse, a real-life stalking plot, and subsequent federal charges against her estranged husband, Myrtle Beach pastor John-Paul Miller, surfaced. Death of the Pastor’s Wife reconstructs the events leading up to Mica’s sudden and mysterious death, featuring unseen footage and firsthand accounts from friends and family members close to her.
Leanne (2025-Present)
While Death of the Pastor’s Wife opens the door for thrills this week, Leanne is returning with its highly anticipated sophomore season to offer some light-hearted escape. Inspired by comedian Leanne Morgan’s stand-up, the multi-cam sitcom follows the titular persona as she takes on the challenge of moving her ageing parents into her home, resulting in classic senior clashes as she prepares to welcome her 60s.
Leanne confronts the physical and emotional reality of ageing through her signature humour, and she pursues a fresh chapter in her love life, developing a close bond with FBI agent Andrew, who happens to be tracking a criminal linked to Carol’s new plumber boyfriend. Although she already dealt with a late-in-life heartbreak in her marriage in the debut season of Leanne, season two promises to bring some change in that aspect when it arrives on August 27th.
Mousetrap (2026)
Undoubtedly one of the most anticipated Netflix releases of the week, Mousetrap is a gripping new K-thriller scheduled for release on August 28th. The South Korean chase thriller tells the story of Je Moon-jae, a reclusive novelist who wakes up one fine day to discover that his manager friend has vanished without a trace and his phone and other devices no longer recognise his fingerprint.
Soon enough, Moon-jae realises the situation is far worse than he initially assumed when he finds out that his identity, name, and finances have been stolen by a mysterious entity called The Rat. Stripped of his fortune and unable to prove who he is, Moon-jae takes on an unthinkable mission to reclaim his life and career, joining forces with No-ja, a dangerous loan shark who had been tailing him all this time over an unpaid debt.
The Secret Woman (2026)
Also hitting Netflix shelves on August 28 is a gritty Danish psychological thriller, The Secret Woman, which follows Louise Andersen, who lives a seemingly peaceful life running a café on a Norwegian island with her partner Joachim. But her blissful existence is cut short when a stranger locates Louise at her current abode, dropping bombshell claims that she is actually Helene Söderberg, a Danish woman who disappeared years ago.
What the stranger also reveals is that Helene has a young son and a husband back in Denmark, triggering a wave of curiosity in Louise. Compelled to find out the truth for herself, The Secret Woman follows Louise as she leaves Joachim and her quiet routine behind to retrace her forgotten steps, returning to her seemingly ideal, lavish former life to discover why she chose to abandon everything in the first place.
The Whisper Man (2026)
August 28th is going to be one hell of a busy day for Netflix users, with James Ashcroft’s The Whisper Man also slated for a release. Based on Alex North’s novel of the same name, the upcoming crime thriller, starring Robert De Niro and Adam Scott, follows a widowed crime writer and his young son who move to the quiet town of Featherbank, haunted by the checkered legacy of a notorious serial killer.
Soon after their arrival, the eight-year-old boy is unexpectedly kidnapped, prompting the father to turn to his own estranged retired detective father when rumours of The Whisper Man’s return terrorise the town. It turns out that the ex-detective was the one who originally locked away the serial killer years ago. But now investigators suspect that the original Whisper Man may have had an active accomplice or unsuspectingly has given birth to a copycat killer for the next generation.
