Three intense thrillers Netflix users are yet to greet this August
From The Last House and Outer Banks to Blood Sacrifice and The Charles Manson Tapes, the monthly lineup has been packed with every brand of thrill. But what if Netflix were to say there’s more on the way?
While, of course, there is, considering four months are still left before the year-end, what we mean is that August still has more thrilling surprises in store.
So, if your plate already looks full, you must pick up the pace before the tell-all spoilers buzz in. Although that can put the audience in a rush, all we can recommend is simply not to panic since there’s still a weekend to bank on before the upcoming releases.
Finish off those pending watches while you still can because three intense new Netflix thrillers will take up all the room in the last week of August.
Three thrillers to watch out for this August:
The Whisper Man (James Ashcroft, 2026)
Based on Alex North’s best-selling novel, The Whisper Man is an upcoming thriller film on Netflix, helmed by A-listers Robert De Niro, Michelle Monaghan, Adam Scott, and Michael Keaton, among others. Directed by James Ashcroft, the Netflix movie, premiering August 28th, follows a widowed crime writer, Tom Kennedy, who moves to the sleepy village of Featherbank with his eight-year-old son after his wife’s sudden death.
Although the move is driven by a desire to start fresh, Featherbank is not just any other town. Two decades ago, Featherbank was terrorised by Frank Carter, a notorious serial killer dubbed “The Whisper Man,” who lured young boys with window whispers before kidnapping and brutally murdering them. Shortly after Tom and his son arrive, another young boy goes missing, sparking a widespread fear that the original killer may have a copycat in real time or perhaps an accomplice.
Mousetrap (Kim Hong-sun, 2026)
August 28th will be a day of thrills, and before we get ahead of ourselves, yes, the gritty South Korean psychological thriller Mousetrap is also arriving the same day. Adapted from Ludovico’s Kakao webtoon Field Mouse, the gripping new K-thriller follows Je Moon-jae, a reclusive novelist whose isolated life crumbles when one fine day his phone stops recognising his fingerprint, only to realise that his identity, name, and fortune have been stolen by a mysterious figure, “The Rat.”
Unable to prove who he is, with an anonymous entity stealing his entire existence, Moon-jae is forced to join forces with No-ja, a ruthless loan shark who had spent years tracking him down over an unpaid debt, to reclaim his life and bring down the imposter. Mousetrap primarily draws inspiration from the popular Korean folktale about a rat that eats clipped fingernails and transforms into the concerned person.
The Secret Woman (Barbara Topsøe-Rothenborg, 2026)
Also hitting Netflix shelves on August 28th is our final pick, The Secret Woman, based on Anna Ekberg’s novel of the same name. The forthcoming Danish mystery thriller follows a quiet café owner, Louise Anderson, who lives with her partner Joachim on the Norwegian island of Hidra. While their lives are otherwise peaceful, the bliss is shattered one day when a stranger claims Louise is actually Helen Söderberg, a wealthy woman who went missing from Denmark three years ago.
She further discovers that she is married and is a mother of a young boy, suggesting that she may have suffered memory loss, after all. Driven by a desire to find the truth for herself, The Secret Woman revolves around Louise’s pursuit of the truth, which begins with her leaving Joachim to retrace her past and why she fled, unaware that the real truth is dark enough to turn her new life upside down.
