Everything we know about ‘Peaky Blinders’ season 6

Steven Knight’s 2013 Netflix series, Peaky Blinders, changed the course of British crime dramas when it was released. Moody and dark, the show chronicles the escapades of the Black Country gang, infamous for their notoriety and tendency to stash dangerous razor blades in their peaked caps.

It follows the character progression and conquests of the handsome and eloquent Thomas Shelby — played by the wonderful Cillian Murphy — who is ambitious, cunning and shrewd as he tries to reach the top.

Ahead of the release of the sixth and final season, here is everything we know about Peaky Blinders season 6:

When will Peaky Blinders season 6 be released?

Peaky Blinders usually begins streaming on Netflix shortly after it concludes airing on BBC UK. In 2019, the fifth season came to Netflix on October 4th, 2019, nearly three weeks after its debut on BBC.

This year, BBC released the first of the six episodes of the final season on Sunday, February 27th, 2022.

Steven Knight’s popular crime series will premiere its sixth and final season on Netflix on June 10th, 2022.

While the first five seasons are all available for streaming, the six episodes of the last season will all drop together on the same day for fans to binge on.

The final episode will reportedly be “feature-length”, which usually refers to a 90-minute long episode, according to an anonymous Reddit user.

What will happen in Peaky Blinders season 6?

After a riveting season 5 where the Shelbys are seen struggling with the historic 1929 stock market crash, Tommy Shelby confronts fascist adversaries as well as younger family member rivals who threaten to dethrone him.

The fifth season ended with a cliffhanger that saw Tommy pointing a gun at his head while screaming at his deceased wife. Whether he kills himself remains a mystery that is yet to be revealed in the sixth season.

However, the teaser released on their official Twitter handle shows Murphy, clad in his quintessential overcoat and cap, walking down a dingy, cobbled street, holding a large bag.

The sixth season will also reveal Shelby’s traitor besides bringing to an end one of the greatest British crime dramas in history.

The sixth season will focus on Shelby’s failed Oswald Mosley assassination plot that led to the murder of Polly Gray. This addition helped bring Gray’s chapter to a close following the actress Helen McCrory’s tragic and untimely demise due to a battle with cancer last year.

The sixth season of the show ventures into the timeline of the Second World War and traces the journey of the Shelbys amidst rising fascism.

Who are the cast members on Peaky Blinders season 6?

All the main cast members including Cillian Murphy, Sophie Rundle, Finn Cole, Aimee-Ffion Edwards and Paul Anderson among others, will be back for the sixth season.

After the tragic demise of Helen McCrory, it is unclear if Polly Gray will make an appearance.

Stephen Graham is set to join the cast according to their official announcement via Twitter.

Rumour mills have been abuzz with the alleged involvement of Julia Roberts in the series, following the news regarding well-known celebs like Samuel L. Jackson, A$AP Rocky and Snoop Dogg wanting to be a part of the production.

What is the production status of Peaky Blinders season 6?

Season 6 saw Anthony Byrne rejoining the project alongside Steven Knight. Although the series began filming in Liverpool and Scotland in February 2020, the pandemic halted production and brought everything to a standstill.

Byrne took to Instagram to talk about their predicament. He said, “It’s a real shame not to be able to make it for you at this time.”

After things got slightly better, adhering to Covid-19 protocols, the show resumed production in November 2020. After months of filming, Byrne took to Instagram, yet again, to confirm the official conclusion of filming.

Editing on season 6 reportedly ended in November 2021.

Will there be another season after Peaky Blinders season 6?

Although Steven Knight had said way back in 2018 about potential plans of creating season 7, these plans have supposedly now been scrapped. The sixth season is said to be the final season as of now.

The sixth season will be followed by a feature-length film that will bring an end to this notorious saga of Thomas-fucking Shelby, as confirmed by Knight who said that the film will be “the end of the road for [the series] as we know it.”
