The 10 most popular series on Netflix this week: May 2022

May 2022 has had a great start with a very promising line-up for this month.

Every week Best of Netflix will bring to you the list of the ten most popular series on Netflix across the globe. From new releases to certain old ones, some of these Netflix shows have been reigning the charts for weeks and generating conversations on social media.

Since the release of the second part on April 29th, 2022, the fourth and final season of Ozark has been reigning at the top of all charts. It is its eighth debut on the Top 10s chart and has already been streamed for a little over 78 million hours. With gruesome violence and hocking scenes, the finale is epic and bloody, starring Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Julia Garner, Sofia Hublitz and others in prominent roles.

Netflix viewers are seemingly pretty enamoured by the prospective properties in Los Angeles and the struggles of real-estate agents trying to make a living there, which makes the fifth season of Selling Sunset appear in the second position with a stream time of 34 million hours.

Naomi Scott and Rupert Friend’s latest British anthology series Anatomy of a Scandal was the most viewed show after its debut in April. Currently, it has been viewed for a little over 30 million hours and has also faced a lot of criticism due to the fetishisation of rape in a shocking scene of gratuitous sexual violence.

Created by Chris Van Dusen and produced by Shonda Rhimes, Bridgerton seasons one and two are still reigning supreme in the hearts of Netflix viewers who seemingly cannot get enough of the grandeur and intricate details of Regency-era romance. Based on Julia Quinn’s novels, the two seasons have followed the romantic pursuits of the eldest Bridgerton daughter, Daphne and her older brother, Anthony. The show has already been renewed for two more seasons and can go on for eight seasons, according to Rhimes

Created by Euros Lyn and based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel, the latest LGBTQ+ teen romance high school series Heartstopper has a 100 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Starring Kit Connor and Joe Locke in the lead, the show has a surprise cameo from Olivia Colman and has won hearts with its moving content that starts important conversations regarding love, friendships, sexuality and gender. It has been viewed for almost 24 million hours this week.
