April 2022 has had quite a promising start! Every week Best of Netflix will bring to you the list of the ten most popular series on Netflix across the globe. From new releases to certain old ones, some of these Netflix shows have been reigning the charts for weeks and generating conversations on social media.
Chris Van Dusen’s Regency-era period drama series Bridgerton has caused quite the stir ever since the release of its first season in December 2020.
After two years of eager anticipation, this Shonda Rhimes production finally returned to Netflix for a second season, and both seasons have occupied the top two spots on the chart. Based on Julia Quinn’s popular novel series, the period drama deals with the lives of the upper echelons of aristocratic London in the 19th century and records their opulent lives and etiquettes.
While the first season focused on the romantic endeavours of Daphne Bridgerton and the Duke of Hastings, Simon Bassett, the second season was rife with sexual tension, slow-burn romance and forbidden longing between Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma. The show has already been renewed for four seasons and might go on to have eight seasons to keep up with the chronology of Quinn’s novels.
The second season has been viewed for a staggering 251 million hours while the first season is back on the charts after two years, gaining 53 million streams.
Ronan Bennet’s Top Boy, too, has found both its seasons dominating the Netflix charts this week. Starring Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson, this scathing socio-political examination of street life and racial politics have been praised by one and all. The second season also sees the characters expanding their base from London to the picturesque and scenic locations in Spain and Morocco.
With 21 million streams this week, Inventing Anna has been dominating the charts for the eighth week in a row. A Shonda Rhimes production starring Julia Garner and Anna Chlumsky, the limited series will document the rise and fall of Anna Sorokin, the cunning woman who posed as a fake German heiress, adopted the alias of Anna Delvey and scammed the rich New York socialite of millions of dollars.
Among relatively newer entrants, Tom Hardy’s period drama Taboo has featured in the tenth spot for the second time.
