The most disturbing moments from 'Ozark' season 4 part 2

To appease their fans with a grand and brutal finale, Ozark ended with its fourth and final season releasing the final volume on April 29th, 2022, and has received a mixed reception from fans who are still seemingly hungover on the Byrde family madness.

Since its premiere in 2017, the show has won around 32 Emmy nominations, winning Bateman Best Director Award and Garner two Best Supporting Actress Awards. Starring Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Julia Garner, Sofia Hublitz, Charlie Tahan, Skylar Gaertner, Felix Solis and Janet McTeer, this seven-episode series also featured Killer Mike as an additional cast member.

Fans have been impressed by how intricately crafted the entire series is with its moody tone and intense narrative that sees the Byrde family facing a new, daunting obstacle every season. Ozark fans tend to love thrilling crime dramas that abound in drug wars, cartel rivalries, gruesome violence, and fast-paced action, with an underlying commentary about the ethics of family, morality and human integrity.

The fourth season was pretty brutal, keeping up with the overall gory and shocking atmospheric tension within the narrative. The show has had its fair share of violence, torture, and madness, leaving viewers visibly uncomfortable yet oddly hooked with quite a few jaw-dropping, brutal scenes.

Here, we take a look at the most disturbing moments from the final volume of the fourth season of Ozark

The most disturbing moments from ‘Ozark’ season 4 part 2

Javi’s descent into madness and violence

In the first part of the fourth season, Javi Elizonndro murders newlyweds Darlene and Wyatt Snell in cold blood, thus marking the beginning of his bloodlust. He sends a message on behalf of the Navarro cartel to warn against carrying one’s operations (Darlene was still actively running her heroin deals on the farm).

Javi becomes more erratic and insane in the final volume. He has dinner with an old college professor before beating up the latter for mistreating him back in the day. His descent into madness and gore is alarming.

Ruth Langmore discovers the bodies and seeks vengeance. She seeks answers from the Byrde couple before exacting her revenge in the second and final volume of the fourth season, wherein she guns Javi down.

Marty Byrde’s unwanted transformation

The first part of the fourth season had hinted at an inevitable downfall of the Byrde family. The final volume of season four brings the chapter full circle when Marty becomes the man he hoped he would never be. He becomes as unhinged and remorseless as his captors in season three while carrying out Omar Navarro’s instructions in Mexico.

In Mexico, Marty realises that one of the lieutenants is shady and assumes him to be the mole in the Navarro cartel. He quickly imprisons the man and begins to torture him brutally for intel, easily assuming Omar’s vicious and brutish role while tormenting the man. When Marty learns he has killed the wrong person, he still remains quite unfazed.

Wendy’s father tries to take away the Byrde children

Wendy and her brother, Ben’s father, Nathan Davis, is an abhorrent man. An abusive and narcissistic alcoholic, Nathan is unfit to be a good parent to his children, thus resulting in permanent scarring even in their adulthood. The fourth season sees this manipulative individual trying to take away the Byrde children, Jonah and Charlotte, from their parents.

Although the Byrdes are not great parents with their money-laundering schemes and drug cartel connections which constantly put the family at risk, they are a far better guardian than Nathan. The pervading influence of the latter destroyed his children’s childhoods.

Ruth Langmore’s death

In a pretty unsettling and heartbreaking moment, Clare Shaw sells out Ruth to Javi’s mother, Camila Elizonndro and the Navarro cartel. In the very last episode, there shall be no other casualties until Camila threatens Clare for information regarding Javi’s death. Clare caves in and names Ruth as Javi’s killer to save herself.

When the Byrdes come to notice this, Wendy tries her best to keep Ruth alive, but Marty knows how it is over for Langmore. In a jarring moment, a bullet wound to her chest kills Ruth, one of the most enigmatic characters in the show. But even in her last moments, Langmore says, “I am not sorry. Your son was a murdering bitch, and now I know where he got it from,” as she looks her in the eye while taking the hit.
