Everything we know about Ozark season 4 on Netflix

When will Ozark season four premiere on Netflix?

Ozark season four shall potentially air in 2022.

Production had started in November 2020 adhering to Covid-19 guidelines regarding shooting, as confirmed by Jason Bateman, the lead actor who said, “We’re going to start November 9th. Everything is moving well toward that, and we’re very confident in the guidelines and protocols we’re going to be following. We’ve got tons of consultants, [and] we’re learning a lot from other productions.”

However, due to the unprecedented changes, Bateman no longer directed the first two episodes as intended originally. The production has now begun while keeping in mind all of the safety requirements.

The very first season of Ozark was released in July 2017, followed by season 2 in August 2018. Season 3 was a little delayed with a March 2020 release. Keeping all this in mind, Ozark season 4 could arrive either by the end of 2021 or the beginning of next year. Bateman confirmed our suspicions by saying that the “fastest” they could churn out one full season would be “basically 12 months. There’s just no way to do it any quicker.”

Bateman also confirmed in February 2021 that due to the commencement of vaccination, “it’s going to get to us a whole lot quicker now that Joe Biden’s got his hand on the wheel. It would have taken longer with the last administration, so I think we’re gonna get it to TV sooner thanks to Uncle Joe.”

Where was the fourth season filmed?

Supposedly, the series will be based in Missouri around the Lake of the Ozarks. But in reality, much of the filming has taken place in Atlanta where Lake Lanier and Lake Allatoona have been used as the backdrop.

When will the trailer be released?

The trailer for Ozark season 4 has not yet been released.

How many episodes will Ozark season 4 have?

Ozark season 4 will most likely be split into two halves as there will be 14 episodes in all. So each volume shall be having seven episodes.

What are the possible fan theories regarding the fourth season?

Season three ended on a highly intriguing note when Marty and Wendy began working in close collaboration with Omar Navarro. Their relationship blossomed after the latter claimed to begin a new close-collaborative relationship with the duo. Navarro’s faith in the Byrdes stemmed from their ability to end the gang wars by tearing down the Lagunas cartel.

Season 4 might explore more of this collaboration as well as the fate of Ruth following her falling out with the Byrdes. Ben Davis, who is presumably dead, might come back to haunt them in the form of his death as it shall affect the Byrdes, especially Jonah, who did not take too kindly to his uncle’s death.

Season four has a lot of loose ends to tie, and according to the show’s lead writer, Craig Mundy, the season might focus on how the Byrdes try to “turn the biggest mistakes of their lives into this huge advantage and how much [will] karma catches[s] up with them”.

Many fans believe that Wendy and Marty might end up dying by the end of the show. Mundy cleared out fan theories that tried to suggest Marty Byrde have Walter White’s doomed ending from Breaking Bad by saying, “I know their idea was a very Breaking Bad ending. And that’s not been the intention from the start”.

What happened to Helen?

Helen Pierce, the cartel lawyer, who aspired to take over Marty and Wendy’s business after their deaths, was one of Ozark’s most terrifying antagonists. She was, however, shot dead in Mexico by Navarro. Played by Janet McTeer, who is known for her roles in Jessica Jones as well as her Oscar-nominated performance in Albert Nobbs, told Deadline that she always had a hunch that her character would be killed at some point in the show. “When I read it [in the script] I laughed out loud. It’s always good fun when you get a really good death.”

Talking about Helen’s death scene, the stunt coordinator Hiro Koda explained how and why it was a “challenging sequence”. He elaborated, “We had to work out how much debris and blood would come out on top of Wendy and Marty, and seeing her fall – there were no stunt doubles. It’s about precise timings.”

They were happy with the sequence as it “turned out perfectly and looked amazing but [we] had to work out her placement”. Koda added, “No CGI was used in Ozark apart from some gunfire when the actors were standing close together.”

Is Ben dead?

Wendy’s bipolar brother Ben Davis is a huge part of season three and helps propel the series forward. However, while the end of that season led us to believe that Davis is dead, fans are strongly convinced that Ben is still alive and might come back with a plot twist. Their theories are supported by the audience never seeing Ben’s body which could possibly indicate a powerful return of Ben Davis.

Is this the final season?

Netflix has confirmed that season four is the final season for Ozark which makes it all the more riveting. A lot of fast-paced action, nasty truths and mind-blowing dramatic tension is expected from the season.

Chris Mundy, the showrunner, had told The Hollywood Reporter, “We’ve always talked about it as five seasons. It could be four, it could be seven… but that always seemed like a good number to us.”

However, contrary to his claims, the cast confirmed that the series would end on the fourth season to not make it seem like a drag.

According to Felix Solis, who plays Omar Navarro, “All good things must come to an end. This was a good job that must come to an end. We don’t want to wait until it’s not good for it to end.”
