The five biggest updates from Netflix this week: September-October 2026
Right, so quite a lot happened around Netflix this week, and before we get anywhere near the five biggest stories, there are a few other pieces of news that are worth talking about.
WWE, for starters, is coming to Netflix in Japan, which pushes that partnership into another major market. Wave Makers is also getting a second season, so anyone who got hooked on the Taiwanese political drama has another round coming.
Next, a Dead-End Job picked up an October release date, and honestly, a Korean mystery-horror series about a well-paid job already sounds like something you need to press that reminder bell for.
And still, none of those made our five. So, yes, we have got plenty to talk about.
The Watcher Season 2 finally moves forward
Well, look who has finally stirred. After years of The Watcher season two sitting in that Netflix limbo where nobody quite knew whether it’s coming back or is getting involved in Netflix’s limited series catalogue, production is moving again, and the good news is Brannocks are coming back with it. Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale return as Nora and Dean, while Isabel Gravitt is back as Ellie; Netflix has also confirmed Margo Martindale’s return as Mo, so now we’ll finally have a ray of hope for the conclusion we all deserve.
And that clears up one rather big question, because an earlier production report had suggested season two might turn The Watcher into an anthology with a college-fraternity story. Netflix has now gone the other way, keeping the original family in the picture. There is still no release date, mind you, but cameras are rolling.
Lindsay Lohan and Henry Golding team for Netflix rom-com Return to You
Fancy a Lindsay Lohan romance without Christmas trees? Consider the wish, uh, granted because Netflix has Return to You for all the rom-com lovers coming soon, which pairs her with Henry Golding for a 2008-set love story built around a DVD landing in the wrong hands. Remember DVDs? Good, because this one is hella important.
Lohan plays a lonely attorney who receives a message recorded by a dying woman for her husband and decides to find the man who was meant to see it. Now, hand a rom-com fate, a misplaced love message, and you can see where Cupid appears for real.
Oh, and there is a reunion behind the camera as well: Mark Waters directs, bringing him back together with Lohan more than two decades after Freaky Friday and Mean Girls.
Wonka’s The Golden Ticket proves a big hit for Netflix
This one has rather made a mug of the reviews. Wonka’s The Golden Ticket pulled in 4.6 million views during its first week on Netflix, enough to land at number two on the Global Top 10. For a brand-new reality competition built around a property everybody already knows inside out, that is a huge number.
The setup puts 12 Golden Ticket winners inside a recreation of Wonka’s chocolate factory, each with a partner in tow, and asks them to survive a run of challenges before the field gets whittled down. Gabrielle Wright came out on top with the $3 million prize after eliminated contestants returned as the jury for the finale.
So, sequel time? Netflix has said nothing yet, but 4.6 million first-week views give the show a decent case to make.
Netflix surprises-drops more One Piece material
Thought Netflix was finished after dropping the two-part LEGO One Piece animated special? Apparently not. On the same day, the streamer slipped out a second season of ONE PIECE: Bonus Content under the title LEGO ONE PIECE: More to Explore, giving fans a couple of extra peeks behind the curtain.
The first episode runs for seven minutes and has season two cast members, including Lera Abova, Callum Kerr and David Dastmalchian, opening LEGO versions of their characters. The second heads into the recording booth, where Iñaki Godoy and other members of the live-action cast can be seen voicing their animated counterparts.
No, this is not some secret bridge into the next live-action season, so keep expectations in check. Still, when Netflix says nothing and then hands One Piece fans two extra episodes anyway, who is going to complain?
Tyler Perry sets Confabulation at Netflix
Tyler Perry clearly has no intention of taking his foot off the accelerator at Netflix, because his new movie Confabulation a psychological thriller, is ready to raid Netflix. And it has Lucien Laviscount, aka Alfie, from Emily in Paris as lead.
Laviscount plays a firefighter who becomes convinced that a woman he once loved needs rescuing from her powerful husband, which sounds straightforward until his own memory starts betraying him.
Taylour Paige and Shamier Anderson also star, with Nadine Ellis, Peter Parros and Najah Bradley joining the cast. Perry writes and directs, while production listings say filming began in September at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, with additional work in Seattle.
