The most popular movies on Netflix change colours nearly every week, not just globally, but also regionally.

During the week of September 21st and September 27th, Janus Metz Pedersen’s gritty crime drama UNABOMBER didn’t just topple last week’s chart-topper internationally. With 16.3million views, the Netflix thriller is also the number one movie in 47 countries, including Argentina, Canada, Uruguay, Venezuela, Austria, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and the United States, among others.

But if that makes you think the most popular movies chart is one and the same everywhere you go, you’re gravely mistaken because the US chart is full of surprises this week.

Diverging from the global trends, Netflix’s most popular movies chart in the US has Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare ranked second. Although the 2024 war drama also appeared in the second half of the international rankings, the Henry Cavill-starrer clearly enjoys a better position Stateside.

The same applies to Tom Cruise’s 2022 adrenaline-fueled action drama, Top Gun: Maverick, which is currently ranked third on the most popular movies chart in the US. While the military adventure blockbuster just made the cut in the global charts, ranking tenth, it has made itself right at home in the States.

Ranked fourth on the most popular movies chart in the US is Netflix’s newest dance comedy, Best of the Best, starring Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Priyanka Kedia. Meanwhile, rounding out the top five trendsetters of the week is Eric Appel’s 2026 comedy, The Breadwinner.

In the second half of Netflix’s most popular movies chart in the US, Tyler Perry’s threequel, Why Did I Get Married Again? takes the lead at sixth after two straight weeks of reigning on the streaming charts. While the trends so far highlight a mixed bag of cinematic choices, succeeding the intergenerational comedy is a Lifetime thriller, The Seemingly Perfect Family.

Following closely is the fan-favourite adventure-fantasy comedy Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, marking the only animated title on this week’s most popular movies chart in the US.

Up next on this week’s most popular movies chart is the 2023 apocalyptic psychological horror, Knock at the Cabin, ranked tenth. And quite surprisingly, the movie that pulls the curtain on this week’s Stateside trends is the 2018 rom-com The Matchmaker’s Playbook, with which it’s officially a wrap.
