Unlike titles that thrive on a fluke, Netflix’s most popular movies chart has found a deserving candidate, and the second-week streak says it all.

During the week of September 14th to September 20th, Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? amassed a whopping 9.7million views worldwide, becoming the number one movie in 12 countries, including the Bahamas, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, Martinique, and most notably, the United States, among others.

While that might make the audience assume that the global and US charts are on par, the truth is pretty different. The second spot belongs to a Netflix Original serial-killer thriller on the international rankings, but the 2026 Lifetime thriller The Seemingly Perfect Family has clearly snatched the position Stateside.

That said, ranked third on the most popular movies chart in the US is Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, starring Henry Cavill. Despite the film’s relatively recent addition to the platform, the historical action drama has made the cut in both coveted charts.

Up next on the most popular movies chart is an animated classic, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. While the animated adventure comedy already left its mark in the second half of the international charts, it clearly enjoys a better position in the US. Meanwhile, succeeding the 2022 movie is Taylor Sheridan’s gritty psychological thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead, starring Angelina Jolie.

Moving on to what’s trending next on Netflix, well, it is James Ashcroft’s The Whisper Man, starring Robert De Niro and Adam Scott. The gripping murder-mystery adaptation may have made it to the top five on the most popular movies chart globally, but Stateside, it has taken a bit of a fall.

Similarly, following right behind is another Netflix Original movie, Best of the Best, starring Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Priyanka Kedia. Although viewers had high expectations from the dance-comedy drama, it has yet to topple over the weekly favourites this time around.

Rounding out the most popular movies chart are three back-to-back animated adventure-fantasy comedies, subtly underscoring the continued frenzy around the genre.

Ranked eighth on the most popular movies chart in the US is the beloved Shark Tale, followed by The Angry Birds Movie 2 in ninth. Pulling the curtains on the weekly trends is the Oscar-winning KPop Demon Hunters. And with that, we officially come to a close this week!
