‘Sex Education’ star Gillian Anderson joins new Netflix movie

Gillian Anderson, famous for her role as Otis’ mother, the sex therapist Dr Jean Milburn in Netflix’s hit series Sex Education, will be seen in the upcoming Netflix film The Pale Blue Eye alongside an enticing ensemble cast. 

Created by Black Mass director Scott Cooper and Netflix, the new murder mystery film will feature a young Edgar Allan Poe and a series of murders that will add to the thickening tension. 

Based on Louis Bayard’s 2006 novel, this film was in development for nearly a decade as Cooper tried his best to adapt the book into a film. It has finally been picked up by Netflix for a staggering $55 million which is the highest global deal at the European Film Market. 

Anderson, who also appeared on The Crown, will be joining a huge ensemble cast. While most of the roles have not yet been announced, Harry Potter’s Harry Melling is set to play the younger version of the acclaimed author and poet, Poe, while Christian Bale, best known for his roles in The Dark Knight and American Psycho, will be seen as the veteran detective, Augustus Landor, bestowed with the duty of solving the cases. 

The rest of the cast includes Robert Duvall from Widows, Lucy Boynton from Bohemian Rhapsody, Gideon Glick and Steven Maier from The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Hadley Robinson from Little Women, Fred Hechinger from The Woman in the Window, Timothy Spall from The Last Samurai, Charlie Tahan from Gotham, Matt Helm from Greyhound, Joey Brooks from Molly’s Game, Charlotte Gainsbourg from Nymphomaniac, Harry Lawtey from The Letter for the King, Brennan Keen Cook from Encounter and Simon McBurney from Carnival’s Row

Set in the 1830s United States Military Academy with a promising cast and narrative, The Pale Blue Eye should deliver immense success.
