Sandra Bullock: Netflix is the reason why she is “still working”

Sandra Bullock is Netflix’s one-true hero. This Academy Award-winning actress has always been appreciated for her brilliant acting skills. With numerous different projects of the highest order, she has cemented her status as one of Netflix’s reigning chart-toppers.

After her 2018 film, Bird Box remained the unchallenged champion for three long years and one of Netflix’s most-watched films. Now, her recent release, The Unforgivable, despite its divided reception, has also topped the ‘Top 10 Most Popular’ film list following its release.

The 57-year-old Academy Award-winning actress recently opened up about how the streaming giant was a huge driving force behind her career in the recent past. “If it wasn’t for Netflix, a lot of people wouldn’t be working. Their stories wouldn’t be told,” she said.

She added, “Who would think that me, as a woman, would still be working at this point? I would have been out in the cow pasture. It’s true.”

Besides creating a fertile ground for original content creation, the streaming service has also introduced to the world various international shows, namely Money Heist, Squid Game and more, that have had an immense cultural impact.

Praising Netflix’s increased efforts to bring more foreign content to the fore, Bullock said, “That’s [Squid Game] one of the bigger ones, but I’ve seen more work from other countries told by other nationalities, and we never would have had that ten years ago, ever.”

She credited the platform for encouraging unity in terms of storytelling and sharing narratives. “It brings people together in a way that really, you know, we’re getting more and more divided, and yet, we have the streamers that are able to blend our stories together and go, look, same story, just different.”

While Bullock awaits the release of her upcoming projects namely Bullet Train, alongside Brad Pitt, and The Lost City with Channing Tatum, her comments reflect how streaming services have been revolutionary in changing the landscape of cinema and television.
