New Netflix documentary explores the death of Marilyn Monroe

Six decades after her untimely demise, pop-cultural icon Marilyn Monroe is still an intriguing enigma.

Being the legend that she is, there were a lot of speculations and conspiracy theories surrounding her death where some alleged that she had overdosed on drugs in New York in 1962. These controversies even led to the reinvestigation of her death in 1982.

However, Netflix has finally decided to bring all rumours to rest with its brand new investigative documentary The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes which will delve deeper into the events surrounding Monroe’s death

The documentary will attempt to uncover the truth by “piecing together her final weeks, days, and hours through previously unheard recordings of those who knew her best”. It will take a look at her glamorous yet troubled life and offer “ a new perspective on that fateful night.”

The two-minute trailer hints at a dark exploration of this bright star’s life and death.

Throughout the trailer, Netflix hints at a montage of images and videos from her career where the investigator goes back to the beginning and explores the rise of this icon and her turbulent career and personal life. Ominously, a caption reads: “the brighter the star, the darker the truth”.

Monroe has always been the centre of pop-cultural discussions. Starring Ana de Armas and Adrian Brody, the upcoming 2022 Netflix biopic Blonde has been directed by Andrew Dominik and given an NC-17 rating due to the abundance of explicit content. The film will arrive sometime this year and chronicle the legend’s life.

The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes will stream on Netflix on April 27th, 2022.
