Netflix’s ‘Ozark’ creator talks about a possible spin-off

Netflix’s popular show Ozark recently released the first part of the fourth and final season on the streaming service. Ever since its premiere in 2017, this Emmy-winning show has been popular among fans thanks to its intense and engaging premise

Starring Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Julia Garner and others, created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams, the show revolves around Marty Byrde and his family as they move to the town of Ozarks and get involved in the money laundering business and drug cartels. With disintegrating moral conscience and burgeoning greed, and other dangers lurking around the Byrde family, it all boils down to Mart and his wife’s cunning ambition to keep them safe.

While the fourth season hints at their inevitable doom amidst violence and bloodshed, showrunner Chris Mundy has spoken about the possibility of a spin-off after the final season.

The first part of the fourth season saw the Byrdes growing closer to the Navarro cartel yet being divided over the side they chose. With seven riveting episodes, it creates the premise for the final seven episodes in the second part to tie all the loose ends and bring the show to a definitive conclusion regarding the Byrdes’ fate.

However, Mundy has spoken about how the characters have spin-off potential. Although there is no official confirmation yet, he spoke to The Hollywood Reporter, saying, “Never say never, but right now we want to make sure we land this one as well as we possibly can.”

He also talked about how the second part would pick “right away” from the events of the first and show the clash between the Byrdes and Ruth over Javi’s fate

Talking about how the show would go “deeper into the family and their bonds”, testing out the loyalty, strength, friendship, marriage and more, he said, “ Hopefully, the back half will still be fun and exciting, but also really emotional for the Byrdes and Ruth.”

Unwilling to “feel messed with” and promising “closure”, Mundy concluded, “People will feel closure by the end — whether they like it or not, I don’t know.”

Ozark season four part two will be released sometime in 2022.
