Netflix has revealed a list of their most-watched shows of 2023, with the American thriller series The Night Agent coming out on top.
Based on the novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk, the show follows FBI Agent Peter Sutherland, played by Gabriel Basso, who must hunt down a traitor working within the US government.
The show also stars Luciane Buchanan, Sarah Desjardins, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Hong Chau, D. B. Woodside and Eve Harlow. It began airing in March, becoming instantly successful.
The new statistics released by Netflix reveal the watched hours from the first six months of 2023, which means that The Night Agent still impressively managed to beat other titles to the top spot despite being released three months into the year.
It was viewed for a whopping 812.1 million hours. In second place came season two of Ginny and Georgia with 665.1 million hours.
Netflix’s co-chief executive Ted Sarandos revealed, “We believe the viewing information in this report will give creators and our industry deeper insights into our audiences, and what resonates with them.”
However, Netflix also explained, “Success on Netflix comes in all shapes and sizes, and is not determined by hours viewed alone. We have enormously successful movies and TV shows with both lower and higher hours viewed. It’s all about whether a movie or TV show thrilled its audience — and the size of that audience relative to the economics of the title.”
