Netflix announces the premiere date for 'Bridgerton' season 2

Produced by Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland, Netflix’s Bridgerton caused a huge uproar and sparked the Regency-core aesthetic ever since its 2020 release in December. With flowing ball gowns, regal mansions and parlours, steamy romance scenes, the show documented the lives of the upper echelons of Regency-era London, basking in the fun and madness of their opulence and wealth.

Recently, to appease the fans who have been waiting for the second season with bated breath for the better part of a year, Netflix has released the premiere date for this Emmy-nominated show. It is set to debut on the streamer on March 25, 2022.

Besides announcing the premiere date, Netflix has also discussed what the upcoming season will entail and what it holds in store for the Bridgerton siblings, especially the oldest brother, Anthony.

Based on Julia Quinn’s eponymous novel series, the second season will follow the exploits of Lord Anthony Bridgerton, a known womaniser, who is the eldest Bridgerton sibling and is burdened with the duty of taking care of his family. With his unimaginably high standards, he searches for a perfect match before coming in contact with Kate Sharma and Edwina Sharma from India and butting heads with the former when she discovers Anthony’s true intentions with her sister.

However, the undeniable tension and chemistry bring them closer and complications ensue. Meanwhile, Penelope tries hard to keep her darkest secret from the people around her regarding Lady Whistledown the omniscient and omnipresent narrator who dishes out the regal gossip.

Netflix has also announced the cast members for the second season. The reprising cast includes Jonathan Bailey, Nicola Coughlan, Phoebe Dynevor, Adjoa Andoh, Lorraine Ashbourne, Bessie Carter, Harriet Cains, Ruth Gemmell, Martins Imhangbe, Florence Hunt, Luke Newton, Claudia Jessie, Luke Thompson, Golda Rosheuvel, Polly Walker, Will Tilston and Julie Andrews.

They will be joined by a new cast comprising Simone Ashley, Charothra Chandran, Shelley Conn, Rupert Young and Calam Lynch.

Besides executive producers Rhimes and Betsy Beers, Chris Van Dusen will serve as showrunner.

In their announcement video, Netflix features Bailey, Ashey, Andoh, Rosheuvel, Chandran, Jessie and Newton, in casual attire. Take a look at the video below:
