Netflix announces cast members for 'Bridgerton' spin-off show

Netflix’s Emmy-nominated Regency-era period drama series, Bridgerton, has been a massive hit on the streamer and garnered a huge fan following due to its intimate, steamy and theatrical take on the lives of aristocracy. Thus, Shonda Rhimes decided upon a spin-off series that will most likely arrive in 2023.

Titled Queen Charlotte, the prequel will give the audience a walkthrough of this iconic Queen’s remarkable life and how she established herself as this legend.

While the original show has been renewed for a four-season run and can go on for eight seasons, according to Rhimes, Queen Charlotte is set to be a limited series.

The series will give a closer look at the Queen’s scorching romance with King George and how their marriage created a significant shift in the social paradigm, leading to the birth of the Ton that is so popular in Bridgerton

The series will also provide an insight into the lives of a young lady Danbury and the Bridgerton matriarch, Violet. While the period drama is based on Julia Quinn’s eight eponymous novel series that deal with the personal, romantic affairs of the Bridgerton siblings, the upcoming show is based on the actual figure of the Queen. She is seen donning insanely extravagant hairdos.

Netflix has announced the cast members for the spin-off. Golda Rosheuval will be seen as Queen Charlotte, while Adjoa Andoh and Ruth Gemmell will be seen as Lady Danbury and Lady Violet Bridgerton.

The rest of the cast will include India Amarteifio as young Queen Charlotte, Michelle Fairley as Princess Augusta, Sam Clemmett as Young Brimsley, Corey Mylchrees as Young King George, Arsema Thomas as Young Lady Danbury, Tunji Kasim as Adolphus, Richard Cunningham as Lord Bute, Cyril Nri as Lord Danbury, Hugh Sachs as Older Brimsely and Rob Maloney as the Royal Doctor.

Rhimes will serve as the writer and showrunner of the show and will be joined by How to Get Away with Murder alum Besty Beers and Tom Verica as executive producers.

Besides a spin-off series, the main series is a part of an expanded deal that will culminate into VR experiences, video games and other in-person adventures owing to the massive popularity of the series that has led to a rapid expansion of the Bridgerton universe.
