Kate Bush reacts to ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 using her song

Netflix released the first volume of Stranger Things season four on May 27th, 2022. The season has topped global charts ever since, amassing a staggering viewership of 286 million hours, a record-breaking premiere weekend on the streamer.

Created by the Duffer brothers, besides being gory, dark and scary, the show features a brilliant soundtrack list that rings in the nostalgia of the enigmatic eighties. One song, in particular, has been revitalized nearly four decades after its original release and has received love from fans, rising to the top of the charts.

Released in 1985, Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” song features prominently throughout the season. It turns out to be Max’s (Sadie Sink) favourite song. Max, who is still reeling under the grief and trauma of losing her stepbrother Billy Hargrove in season three, is seen seeking comfort in Bush’s voice and lyricism. The song also saves her life when the monstrous Vecna’s vicious clutches attempt to prey on her guilt and kill her.

Bush, 63, has now made a rare statement about the recent popularity of her song, thanking the series.

On her website, Bush wrote, “You might’ve heard that the first part of the fantastic, gripping new series of Stranger Things has recently been released on Netflix. It features the song, ‘Running Up That Hill’ which is being given a whole new lease on life by the young fans who love the show — I love it too!”

She continued, “Because of this, ‘Running Up That Hill’ is charting around the world and has entered the UK chart at No. 8. It’s all really exciting! Thanks very much to everyone who has supported the song.”

She ended her statement with palpable excitement for the fourth season’s second volume. “I wait with bated breath for the rest of the series in July,” she said.

Influential and loved, however, Bush is a very private person who prefers her work to speak instead. However, the veteran singer is probably overwhelmed by the renewed love her song has received. It was the first track and first single on her album Hounds of Love and was one of Bush’s biggest hits.

Starring Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Winona Ryder, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer, Maya Hawke, Matthew Modine, Priah Ferguson, Robert Englund and Jamie Campbell Bower among others, the fourth season of Stranger Things will release the second volume on July 1st, 2022.
