How the King of Jordan made an epic ‘John Wick’ moment possible

The John Wick franchise has become synonymous with intense action sequences, stylish choreography, and Keanu Reeves’ commitment to doing his own stunts. Currently, John Wick, John Wick: Chapter 2, and John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum have been storming the top ten films list on Netflix US.

However, it is the latest instalment, John Wick: Chapter 4, that has hooked fans. The fourth instalment boasts an unforgettable moment made possible by an unexpected supporter—the King of Jordan. A majestic shot that many may think was achieved with the magic of CGI was actually shot on location.

John Wick 4 takes the legendary assassin, portrayed by Keanu Reeves, on an international quest, delving into the underworld’s most powerful echelons. The film features a pivotal scene set in the Moroccan desert, where John Wick confronts The Elder, played by Saïd Taghmaoui.

The director, Chad Stahelski, revealed in a BuzzFeed interview that obtaining the necessary aerial shots for this scene became a challenge due to restricted access to the location.

In a surprising turn of events, the King of Jordan, who is a fan of the franchise, stepped in to ensure the filmmakers could capture the breathtaking sunrise shot the makers had envisioned to make the scene truly epic. Stahelski disclosed, “The King of Jordan gave us a Black Hawk. He was nice enough to lend us a helicopter to fly the crew out to get the sunrise shot that you see in the movie.”

Reeves, appreciative of the King’s support, remarked, “The King gave you [Stahelski] a helicopter to get a shot because [he’s] a fan of John Wick. That’s kind of cool.”

John Wick: Chapter 4 also pays tribute to the late Lance Reddick, who passed away suddenly on March 17th, 2023, at the age of 60, a few days ahead of the film’s release. The film, dedicated to Reddick, features his return alongside Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, and Ian McShane.

John Wick: Chapter 4 may not arrive on Netflix anytime soon due to the initial streaming rights given to other platforms like Starz and Peacock. However, fans can watch John Wick, John Wick: Chapter 2, and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum on Netflix.
