Five Tyler Perry Netflix projects to keep an eye out for

Remember when Tyler Perry and Netflix just used to have a casual fling? A series once in a while, a film here and there, you know, keeping it casual! Well… that ship has sailed. Perry and Netflix are in a proper relationship now, and 2026 has it as clear as day.

Let’s talk about 2026, which started in February with Joe’s College Road Trip, giving Joe Simmons his own turn behind the wheel, then Beauty in Black came back for a third season in August, which performed extraordinarily. But all that before Why Did I Get Married Again? dragged the old gang to Italy in September. It shows that Tyler Perry is not dipping a toe in the water anymore.

Oh, hold on, we’re not done. We just got another Perry special in October: Doing Life, and if you take a good look at all of it, these films and shows are not similar to each other in any shape or form. So Tyler Perry is not just giving us the quantity; he’s keeping the quality in check too.

And just when you think the man is done, we have five projects of his lined up to entertain by the end of 2026 and keep you busy in 2027.

Five Tyler Perry Netflix projects to keep an eye out for

Give Me Some Sugah (December 16th)

Taraji P. Henson and Tyler Perry are back in business and, well, stone the crows because at this point does it even feel weird? First, Straw happened, then Why Did I Get Married Again? came along, and now here we are with Give Me Some Sugah, where Henson plays Lenore, a Chicago baker who discovers that one of her regular customers, Vamarr Hunter, is the son she placed for adoption decades earlier.

But Perry is not going to this one this time; Tasha Smith has the chair, which, yes, means Angela from Why Did I Get Married? has gone from detonating dinner tables to calling the shots behind the camera. What a turn-up.

Joey Bada$$ and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor are also part of the cast, with Netflix setting December 16th as the date. That thing is on the doorstep.

Tyler Perry’s The Gospel of Christmas (Late 2026)

First of all, have a butcher’s at that cast, because Tyler Perry has gone absolutely spare here: Fantasia Barrino Taylor, Tank, Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammond, Shirley Caesar, CeCe Winans and the Clark Sisters are all involved, so The Gospel of Christmas is not going to be your standard Netflix Christmas flick, no sir. In fact, it sounds more like one of Perry’s classic multistarrers, where you have nothing but drama.

Now you can’t expect mistletoe and mince pies just because it’s a Christmas release. In fact, it’s a little sad since we’re dealing with a struggling pastor here who inherited his family church in a broken New York neighbourhood before getting clobbered by doubt and an adversary determined to make everything worse. Perry writes and directs, and Netflix said it might release in late 2026, and by that it’s safe to assume that it might be sometime near Christmas.

Where There’s Smoke (Expected 2027)

Sixteen hour-long episodes. Bloody hell, Perry is not exactly dipping a toe into firefighter television, is he? As suggested by the name, Where There’s Smoke follows a crew who spend their shifts walking towards burning buildings while everyone else runs in the opposite direction. Sounds quite heroic, right? But all that only to discover that life back home is no piece of cake, with knackered relationships and personal baggage making sure the drama keeps going.

And Perry has gone back to his old favourites for this one, with Tyler Lepley, Mike Merrill, Da’Vinchi and Karen Obilom all returning after previous Perry projects, alongside Eltony Williams, Brock O’Hurn and Joe Hunter. Perry writes, directs and produces the whole 16-episode beast himself, while Netflix is still keeping schtum on a release date. Production is moving along, though, so 2027 looks like the decent shout for now.

Tyler Perry’s Confabulation (Expected 2027)

Well, there is a title Netflix is not going to let you forget in a hurry. Confabulation is a tricky word, which means what happens when your brain fills missing parts of memory with false ones and convinces you they happened for real, which honestly sounds like a nightmare to build a psychological thriller around. Oh, and this one involved a firefighter too. Way to go, Mr Perry!

We have Lucien Laviscount playing a troubled firefighter obsessed with rescuing a woman he once loved from her powerful husband, only for his memories to start going haywire and make him wonder what he sees is real or, well, just confabulation?

Taylour Paige and Shamier Anderson join Laviscount, while Peter Parros and Mikeal Dwayne Griggs are also involved as familiar Perryland faces. Filming wrapped in early October 2026, but Netflix is still keeping quiet on the release date, so 2027 is it, for now.

Beauty in Black Season 4 (Expected 2027)

Okay, everything aside, where the hell do the Bellaries go after that? Season three left Make It Rain looking like a war zone after Jules and Gina went on the attack, while Horace and Norman’s feud got even uglier, with both men ending the finale in serious bother, so Perry has not left the third season with a neat cleanup for the fourth season to pick right away.

For all we know, the fourth season is under production now, and the plot hasn’t been revealed enough, which is fair, given it’s too soon. Although those cliffhangers sure are really juicy for us not to be excited already. The best part was that season four was renewed before the third even released. The release date, as usual, hasn’t been announced yet, but we are speculating spring or summer, perhaps.
