Everything to know about Tyler Perry’s Netflix thriller ‘Confabulation’

Tyler Perry has only just brought the old gang back together for Why Did I Get Married Again?, sixteen years after the previous film, and you might think revisiting one of his best-known franchises would be enough to keep him occupied for a while. Fat chance. Perry already has another Netflix project coming up behind it, and it’s a thriller titled Confabulation, which sounds like a very different beast, with Perry back in the writer-director chair.

Perry’s Netflix pipeline is getting rather crowded, with his new film Doing Time releasing on October 2nd and now Confabulation, which is the one taking us away from relationship drama and into something on the lines of another Perry classic: Beauty in Black.

Confabulation refers to a memory error in which the mind fills gaps with information that feels true to the person recalling it, and once you know that, you know this is going to be no small thriller. Laviscount’s character thinks he understands what is happening around him… but what if his own memory is feeding him the wrong story?

Netflix announced the film on September 29th, and while plenty remains under wraps, the setup is enough to get our hopes up. So, what exactly has Perry cooked up this time?

What is Confabulation about?

Laviscount plays a firefighter who thinks he has left the past behind until a rescue brings Bridgette back into his life, who is also the woman he loved before everything went wrong, and now she is married to a powerful man whom he comes to see as the reason she needs saving.

He becomes convinced that rescuing Bridgette could also restore the future they lost, except the past he remembers does not quite square with what he sees in the present. Bridgette does not fit the version of her he remembers. The more he looks back, the less he knows what really happened and what his mind has filled in for him, hence Confabulation.

That leaves you with one hell of a question: is Bridgette trapped with the wrong man… or has Laviscount’s character misunderstood the whole thing?

Who is in the cast of Confabulation?

Laviscount, best known to Netflix viewers as Alfie in Emily in Paris, is starring opposite Paige, while Shamier Anderson also has an important role. Nadine Ellis and Peter Parros are among the supporting cast, though Netflix is keeping most character details under wraps.

When will Confabulation be released on Netflix?

No date yet. Production reporting says filming began on September 21st at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, with work also taking place in Seattle. So, early doors, but Perry certainly is not hanging about.
