‘Emily in Paris’ to end with Season 6 and we’re not ready

What do you mean Emily in Paris is ending? Excuse me? Somebody genuinely needs to check on the fans because Netflix has just confirmed that season six will be the final season of the series, and people are reacting as if Paris itself has been shut down forever if Emily leaves. But all drama arises; this is very devastating news.

Lily Collins confirmed the news herself with a video announcing that Emily Cooper’s little European adventure is coming to an end. And, ahh, the farewell tour sounds ridiculously dramatic. Production for season six has officially started, with filming taking place in Greece and Monaco and then finally returning to Paris for one last send-off. Of course it ends in Paris! It had to. Imagine the outrage if Emily Cooper left France without one final walk through the city in a fancy outfit worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Man, the grip Emily in Paris had on people! Because it became one of those series everybody claimed to hate while secretly watching the entire season in one sitting. Don’t even deny it! Every year, social media turned into one giant battlefield over Gabriel, Alfie, Emily’s outfits, Sylvie’s attitude, and Mindy’s love life. And despite the madness, people kept coming back for more.

However, Netflix did a good job keeping it under wraps because when they announced season six, they never mentioned it. And now that you think about it, season five already started setting things up for a final chapter. Emily headed to Rome, got involved with Marcello, and was still trapped in the romantic circle with Gabrielle. Meanwhile, Mindy’s engagement drama kept getting messier. But even with all the travelling and new relationships, Paris still pulled Emily back in. Which, let’s be honest, was always going to happen. The show is literally named after that.

Now, yes, everybody is heartbroken. Obviously! The internet has already been broken emotionally by this news. But… and this hurts to say… ending the show with season six is actually the right decision. Painful, but right! Because dragging Emily in Paris into season nine or ten would’ve been a disaster waiting to happen. Nobody wanted twenty-seven more episodes of Gabriel and Emily’s riff because of a misunderstanding. At some point, the drama starts eating itself alive.

And this way, the show gets to leave while people still adore it! That matters! The characters still feel fun, the fashion still gets people talking, and fans still care about who Emily ends up with. That is rare for long-running Netflix shows now. Most series stay around until everyone gets tired and starts watching out of obligation.

So yes, this final season is going to hurt badly. People will cry over fictional Parisians while pretending they are fine about it. But at least Emily in Paris gets to leave before turning into one of those exhausted shows that nobody recognises anymore. And that is a pretty chic exit.
