Five Netflix shows to watch if you loved ‘The Trap’
Any psychological thriller geek who has exhausted Netflix’s collection might have already caught up on the German entry of the week: The Trap.
The gripping new series centres on a highly popular yet reclusive author, shut in for over a decade in her house after witnessing the traumatising murder of her sister. But when she recognises the killer on television, she comes out of hiding to lure him in, using herself as bait to uncover the truth.
While you have an idea whether she was successful, many of you are more concerned with what happens after the show.
Well, once the credits roll and you start feeling that void, tune in to these five Netflix shows to watch after The Trap.
Five Netflix shows to stream after The Trap
The Beast in Me (Antonio Campos, Lila Neugebauer, and Tyne Rafaeli, 2025-Present)
Like The Trap’s protagonist, The Beast in Me on Netflix follows a famous, grieving, reclusive author, Aggie Wigs, crippled by a major writer’s block after the tragic death of her young son in a car crash. With long-overdue bills and repair costs, she struggles to inspire herself and come up with an idea for the already delayed book that could rebrand her public image.
But everything changes when charismatic real estate mogul Nile, who was the prime suspect in the mysterious disappearance of his wife, moves next door. Although Aggie detests Nile, she cannot help but succumb to the temptation of digging deep into his life. The Beast in Me centres on Aggie, as she investigates Nile’s checkered past, secretly working alongside authorities to uncover a truth that spirals into a mental cat-and-mouse chase.
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (Michael Lehmann, 2022)
If you want something with similar plot points to The Trap, where an isolated protagonist copes with past trauma after witnessing a crime, The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window will deliver in spades. At the heart of the story is Anna, a heartbroken, divorced artist recouping from a heavy personal loss that has left her homebound.
While she mixes heavy amounts of red wine with prescribed medication, suffering from severe ombrophobia and hallucinations, Anna believes she has seen a brutal murder at her new neighbour’s place from her window, no matter what others say. The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window spotlights an unreliable narrator, but the only burning question is: was the murder real, or is it the pills talking?
I Will Find You (Brad Anderson, Adam Davidson, Maggie Kiley, and Maja Vrvilo, 2026)
The Trap on Netflix follows a reclusive author’s revenge arc as she plans to stop at nothing to track down her sister’s killer. Meanwhile, Harlan Coben’s I Will Find You centres on a wrongfully incarcerated father, David Burroughs, serving a life sentence at Briggs Penitentiary for the bludgeoning murder of his three-year-old son Matthew, a crime he has no memory of.
But one fine day, his former sister-in-law, Rachel, shows up with a photo from an amusement park that shows a boy with Matthew’s distinct birthmark. Convinced he’s alive, Burroughs makes a risky attempt to break out of prison and track down his abducted son. I Will Find You follows David as he embarks on a dangerous pursuit of his long-lost son, driven by a relentless urge to find those responsible.
1899 (Baran bo Odar, 2022)
Since The Trap comes from the Netflix Original German slate, you cannot really skip 1899 on Netflix. From the creators of Dark, the series takes place entirely aboard an ocean liner stranded in the Atlantic. The mystery-sci-fi thriller starts on a steamship named the Kerberos, carrying a multinational group of European emigrants, travelling from London to New York City.
Amid the voyage, the crew suddenly receives distress signals from the Prometheus, a sister ship that vanished four months earlier. After locating the Prometheus, they find it adrift and deserted, oblivious that it is the start of a nightmarish puzzle they must solve. But what complicates their mission is a mysterious young survivor who holds pieces of that riddle, spanning past, present, and future, that they’re so desperately trying to solve.
Pieces of Her (Minkie Spiro, 2022)
Finally, to wrap up The Trap’s post-viewing marathon, we recommend Pieces of Her. Based on Karin Slaughter’s novel. The American thriller opens with 30-year-old Andy as she celebrates her birthday at a diner in Belle Isle, Georgia, with her mother, Laura, only to find themselves trapped in a deadly mass shooting.
But to her extreme shock, she just watches Laura expertly and brutally eliminate the gunman, and people making videos of her mother go viral in no time. Utterly surprised, Andy starts to reflect on her mother’s actions that day. While she already sees Laura from a changed perspective, Laura’s dangerous past no longer stays restricted to one viral moment as the ghosts of her past come to haunt their doorstep.
