Five Netflix shows to watch if you loved ‘A Couple of Lies’

Vacations are for unwinding, or at least that’s what we thought before Netflix offered us a front-row seat to the dark side of seemingly peaceful getaways in A Couple of Lies.

The Swedish psychological thriller centres on a house swap gone terribly wrong. Based on Stefan Ahnhem’s novel of the same name, the four-part series follows Helene and Carl from Stockholm’s archipelago as they trade houses for a few weeks with Scarlett and Adam, a couple they’ve never met, living in a sun-drenched villa in Sicily.

What starts as an idyllic getaway in both cases soon turns into a nightmare as reality unravels, embroiling the pairs in a dangerous game of surveillance, deceit and exploitation.

It may not be the best thing to watch if you have a trip planned, but if you already took the bait, here are five Netflix shows to stream after A Couple of Lies.

Five Netflix thrillers to binge after A Couple of Lies

The Final Problem (Félix Viscarret, 2026)

If you loved the getaway-gone-wrong aspect of A Couple of Lies, The Final Problem is a mystery-thriller that will hit all the right chords for this post-watch party. The Netflix miniseries centres on 13 people stuck at an isolated hotel on an island off the coast of Mallorca in the spring of 1959 due to a deadly, violent storm. The Spanish series follows veteran actor Benjamin Basil, who travels to the island, hoping to revive his career.

But when an English tourist named Elisa Mander is found dead inside their hotel, the apparent suicide soon turns out to be a cold-blooded murder, forcing Basil to channel his inner sleuth. Cut off from the mainland and modern law enforcement, Basil, who once portrayed Sherlock Holmes on screen, joins forces with aspiring thriller writer Francisco to investigate the guests and staff, hoping to track down the real culprit and solve the mystery.

The Perfect Couple (Susanne Bier, 2024)

Similar to A Couple of Lies, The Perfect Couple is a six-part adaptation of Elin Hilderbrand’s novel of the same name. The Netflix limited series follows Amelia Sacks, a humble zoologist, who is about to marry into one of Nantucket’s richest families. And her big, fat, high-society wedding is heavily controlled and financed by her soon-to-be husband Benji’s famous novelist mother, Greer Garrison Winbury.

But on the day of the wedding, Amelia’s best friend Merritt’s body suddenly washes ashore, and the supposed dreamy wedding takes a dark turn as an intense police investigation takes centre stage, leaving all the attending guests potential suspects. The Perfect Couple centres on a wedding nightmare where a murder investigation lifts the lid on a web of family betrayals, hidden financial motives, and messy romantic entanglements.

Who is Erin Carter? (Ashley Way, Savina Dellicour, and Bill Eagles, 2023)

A Couple of Lies is where a dark mystery with hidden pasts and secrets collide, making Who is Erin Carter? a top-notch follow-up on Netflix. The Netflix thriller follows Erin Carter as she lives a seemingly peaceful life in Spain as an expat school teacher married to ER nurse Jordi. During an armed robbery at a local supermarket, Erin unexpectedly combats and confronts the robbers to save her daughter.

But when one of the dying robbers recognises her, word spreads, and her buried history starts unravelling. Who is Erin Carter? centres on Erin as her quiet life in Spain is upended in a single night, forcing her to travel the extra mile to conceal past identity and backstory that seems impossible to protect any longer.

Echoes (Anna Mastro, Valerie Weiss, Kat Candler, and Li Lu, 2022)

Up next on our A Couple of Lies post-viewing list is Echoes, yet another Netflix Original limited series wrapped in dark secrets. The mystery thriller follows identical twin sisters Leni and Gina McClearly, who have secretly swapped identities to live each other’s lives annually on their birthday since childhood. While Leni lives in their hometown of Mount Echo, Virginia, running a horse ranch with her husband Jack, Gina stays in LA along with her husband Charlie.

But their long-standing tradition ultimately collapses when Gina, while impersonating Leni, goes missing in Mount Echo, prompting an investigation led by Sheriff Louise Floss. As the real Leni returns to her hometown, posing as Gina, to search for her missing sister, the subsequent investigation uncovers a dark web of childhood secrets, exploitation, trauma, and shared history.

Behind Her Eyes (Erik Richter Strand, 2021)

Lastly, to wrap up the post watch-party, we recommend the gripping psychological thriller Behind Her Eyes. Adapted from Sarah Pinborough’s novel, the Netflix limited series follows single mother Louise as she works as a part-time receptionist at a psychiatric chamber and unknowingly starts an affair with her new boss, David, who has several skeletons in his closet.

At the same time, she befriends David’s seemingly fragile, isolated wife, Adele, and despite the potential consequences, Louise continues the affair, unaware of the danger that awaits. Behind Her Eyes centres on Louise, whose unlikely relationship with David and unexpected friendship with Adele secretly wreak havoc in her personal life, slowly pushing her towards a dangerous web of manipulation and betrayal.
