The only psychological thriller you need to watch on Netflix this week

Netflix Original psychological thrillers have a unique way of preying on viewers’ worst nightmares, and that’s exactly what Shaque: Trust No One does with its unbelievable storyline.

Directed by Rensil D’Silva, the Hindi-language mystery thriller follows a desperate mother’s relentless search for her daughter, who was abducted from the hospital right after birth.

The seven-episode psychological crime thriller centres on Anvita, whose newborn daughter, Apeksha, is kidnapped from a hospital in Shimla, India. The show cuts nine years later, as Anvita remains psychologically trapped in her grief and mental strain, as the elusive, unidentified abductor keeps sending annual anonymous photographs of Apeksha growing up on her birthday to her original parents.

With everyone around her growing increasingly concerned about Anvita’s deteriorating mental health, including her younger daughter Siddhi, who is simply trying to cope, Anvita turns to local inspector Khurana for help, acknowledging that he’s the only person who trusts her.

Shaque: Trust No One follows the devastated mother who refuses to give up searching for Apeksha, bringing a balanced, grounded story packed with suspense elements, including infidelity, hospital cover-ups, illegal surrogacy, hidden agenda, and revenge arcs.

Set against the cold, foggy backdrop of Shimla, the visual aesthetics and isolated scenic presence naturally add to the moody tone of the missing-person investigation. Although the series is a relatively straightforward mystery, it is full of red herrings due to an unreliable protagonist, which forces viewers to constantly read between the lines to see if they’ve missed anything.

At seven episodes running roughly 30 to 45 minutes, Shaque: Trust No One is a fast-paced mystery that doesn’t compromise on twisted hooks, making it the perfect watch for those who are scared to commit to long-format shows.

If you’re a fan of classic whodunits, tense hillside crime stories, and psychological thrillers that make you question the real and reel, Shaque is definitely worth adding to your Netflix queue. While there’s also a star factor at play with A-list actors Parineeti Chopra and Jennifer Winget stepping into incredibly dramatic, crooked roles, their standout performances add complex shades to the mystery for viewers glued to the screen.

Although it’s understandable if the audience has second thoughts because of the language, it’s not a good enough reason to skip what’s trending on Netflix and making waves on the Internet. So, if you’re wary of FOMO, take the chance and watch Shaque on Netflix before spoilers ruin the suspense.
