Conversations with a Killer: The Charles Manson Tapes (Joe Berlinger, 2026)
If you’re a true crime fanatic, you’re in for the wildest rollercoaster ride this week with Conversations with a Killer: The Charles Manson Tapes, scheduled to hit Netflix shelves on August 12th. Serving as the fifth and final instalment of the hit docuseries comprising The Ted Bundy Tapes, The John Wayne Gacy Tapes, The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes, and The Son of Sam Tapes, the upcoming season focuses on the notorious American cult leader Charles Manson, the mastermind behind a string of murders in late 1960s California.
Conversations with a Killer: The Charles Manson Tapes chronicles the criminal’s rise as the crime leader during the peak of the hippie movement, which resulted in the formation of the infamous cult, the Manson Family, whose members were ordered to commit several ruthless murders, including that of actor Sharon Tate. The three-part documentary revisits the case via never-heard-before prison audio recordings, first-hand accounts, and archival footage.
Nando Between Two Worlds – A Sintonia Film (Johnny Araújo, 2026)
Slated for release on August 12th, Nando Between Two Worlds – A Sintonia Film is the Portuguese-language feature-length spin-off of the Brazilian teen crime drama, set five years after Nando’s rise to power in the dangerous criminal underworld. While the exiled kingpin lives in Serbia, navigating operations remotely with his partner, his teen daughter, Bruninha, runs away from home in Brazil, forcing Nando to return to track her down.
Back at home, Nando tries to fix his broken family ties with Scheyla. But while at it, he’s caught off guard with a web of deception, orchestrated by none other than one of his closest allies, prompting him to confront the pressures and pull of the life he’s trying to outrun. Nando Between Two Worlds – A Sintonia Film follows Nando’s journey as he’s torn between a life-altering decision: to leave the criminal past behind once and for all or stay in the cycle as it is.
A Child of My Own (Maite Alberdi, 2026)
Arriving on August 13th, A Child of My Own is an upcoming Mexican hybrid documentary which revisits the shocking true story of Eleonor Alejandra Marin Mendoza, AKA Ale, who, after suffering three miscarriages, Ale, a victim of crushing societal expectations and family pressures, turned to orchestrating an elaborate fake pregnancy. Although she claimed that she intended to arrange a newborn from an unhappily pregnant woman, the investigation and victim testimony revealed something far more sinister.
Rather than offering a simple true-crime story, A Child of My Own sheds light on the psychological desperation, female bodily autonomy, and the dark consequences of societal conditioning surrounding motherhood from Ale’s story. The documentary reconstructs the series of real-life events through dramatised recollections, with archival news footage, security footage, and home clips.
My Brilliant Career (Alyssa McClelland and Anne Renton, 2026)
If you love a good period drama, My Brilliant Career, inspired by Miles Franklin’s classic novel of the same name, is coming up next on Netflix on August 13th. The six-part drama follows Sybylla Melvyn, a razor-sharp, rebellious young Australian woman in 1890 who, despite facing unparalleled family pressure to enter high society and marry for money, refuses to meet societal expectations to chase her own dreams.
Desperate to stand her ground and chart her own path to freedom, My Brilliant Career details Sybylla’s rebellious journey as she tries to upend her family’s matchmaking plans to fulfil her dream of becoming an independent writer. But tensions ultimately arise between her traditional duty and stubborn dreams when a conventional romance enters the frame just as she’s ready to risk it all for a self-authored life.
Don’t Say Good Luck (Julia Hart, 2026)
The final stop for the week is the Sunny Sandler comedy Don’t Say Good Luck, releasing on August 14th. Directed by Julia Hart, the Netflix Original movie follows Sophie Birenbaum, who lands the main role in her high school musical just as her mother’s cancer returns from remission. Although winning the iconic part is no easy feat, her phase of joy is upended with a health scare that no one in the family actually sees coming.
So, just as the 15-year-old navigates the trials and tribulations of teenage life alongside a medical reality check that turns her life upside down, Sophie is forced to navigate teen drama, panic, and family grief while learning to process emotions in her reel and real lives. While Don’t Say Good Luck comes with a healthy dose of laughter, expect the emotional undercurrents to overwhelm you as well this week.
