Every film and series coming to Netflix this week: August 2024

If you are seeking shelter from the summer sunshine, Netflix has got you covered. Restocking their content libraries once again, the streaming giants are set to add a plethora of diverse programming to the platform in order to serve your every need. August is a particularly busy month for Netflix, with many original programmes due to debut on the platform, in addition to a hearty mix of licensed work too.

Netflix is reaffirming its dedication to reality television this week, with the arrival of various shows like Love Is Blind: UK, Blue Ribbon Baking Championship, and the debut of Korean social media reality show The Influencer. Due to the relatively low cost of producing reality shows – in comparison to a big-budget studio production – and the consistently high viewing figures attracted, it is likely that we will see more and more reality shows coming to Netflix in the future.

This week’s offerings also offer a healthy representation of the documentary genre, with the unveiling of Inside the Mind of a Dog, which aims to share scientific insights into the inner workings of our beloved pets. On the topic of wildlife, the Sky production Secret World of Sound with David Attenborough, which originally premiered back in February, will arrive on Netflix this week. Presented by the veteran documentary-maker, the programme showcases the sonic communication of the animal kingdom.

Although Netflix continues to remove its original programming from the platform, the platform continues to produce its own work, with season four of The Umbrella Academy due to arrive this week. The superhero series gives some much-needed teen representation to Netflix, and the first three seasons proved to be a colossal hit for the platform.

Fittingly, for the summer holidays, Netflix has announced a variety of children’s programming due to appear on the service this week. The incredibly popular children’s series Gabby’s Dollhouse celebrates the release of its tenth season and part three of Pokémon Horizons: The Series will surely excite all the budding young PokeMasters out there.

Among the licensed work coming to Netflix this week is The Emoji Movie, which is often hailed among the worst animated movies of all time. Originally released back in 2017, and quickly panned by virtually everybody who saw it, it is surprising that the film would be licensed by Netflix, given that Sony Pictures have done their utmost to pretend the production of The Emoji Movie was simply a bad dream.

There is truly something for everyone on Netflix this week, so make sure you do not miss the boat.
