Everything you need to know about the ‘Blue Eye Samurai’ return
Netflix is not just gearing up for the holiday season and year-end. It is taking special care to ensure the post-holiday blues don’t hit as hard, with the second season of Blue Eye Samurai arriving in January 2027.
The second season of the hit Emmy Award-winning series from creators, writers, and executive producers Amber Noizumi and Michael Green picks up right where the debut season left off, with Mizu, the mixed-race swordmaster, sailing off to London in hopes of tracking down the remaining two men who could be her father.
“London in 1657 had a thriving culture of illicit activity, something that fittingly parallels our story of Japan,” the creators tell Tudum. “Mizu will have to navigate this dark underbelly amid a puritanical society that persecuted women as witches, closed bars and theatres, and even outlawed Christmas. If you know Mizu, she doesn’t take too kindly to repression, especially if it stands in the way of her revenge.”
While that’s quite a tease for onlookers, find more details on Blue Eye Samurai season two with a comprehensive guide below.
What is the plot?
In the upcoming season of Blue Eye Samurai, Mizu returns on her bloody revenge quest, this time in London, where new friends and foes await as she prepares to face her inner demons. Per Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, “for the first time, she’ll have to confront what it’s like to stand out as Asian in a sea of white faces. And then find out what it means to be a woman during one of the most oppressive times in English history.”
Since Mizu is such an unstoppable presence, the creators are “taking a volatile element and dropping it into an unstable equilibrium, and then waiting for a chain reaction.” They also addressed the long wait for new episodes and thanked viewers for their patience.
Who is in the cast?
Maya Erskine returns to voice Mizu in the popular animated series, alongside Brenda Song as Akemi, Darren Barnet as Taigen, and Masi Oka as Ringo.
While the debut season also had Kenneth Branagh as Abijah Fowler, George Takei as Seki, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as the Swordmaker, Randall Park as Heiji Shindo, Stephanie Hsu as Ise, Ming-Na Wen as Madame Kaji, Harry Shum Jr as Takayoshi, and Mark Dacascos as Chiaki, the second season of Blue Eye Samurai has new faces, including Jonathan Price as Old Violet, Joel Kim Booster as Priest Ando, and Sherry Cola as Kuma.
