Everything we know about Netflix’s animated series 'Tomb Raider'

Legendary Entertainment is working with Netflix on a new anime series that will help the iconic and stealthy Lara Croft embark on dangerous adventures yet again. In the new series, she will raid tombs and stumble upon new mysteries — a winning combo in our eyes. The Witcher: Blood Origin writer Tasha Huo is set to work on this project as well.

Netflix took to Twitter to announce this exciting news themselves by saying, “The most iconic heroine in video games is jumping to animation! Tomb Raider is a new anime series from [Legendary Entertainment] following Lara Croft after the events of the video-game reboot trilogy.”

This will mark the beginning of one of the biggest video gaming franchises coming to Netflix in the form of film and series adaptations. The Tomb Raider franchise is one of the greatest franchises in the history of gaming, developed in the mid-90s, and it led to the much sought-after Tomb Raider films that starred Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft.

Who is developing Netflix’s animated series Tomb Raider?

Tasha Huo is the head of the writing staff. She is simultaneously working on Tomb Raider, Black Belle and Red Sonja

Powerhouse Animation Studios, who created Netflix smash hit Castlevania, will be animating the series from their studio in Austin, Texas.

The series is being produced by Legendary Television in collaboration with Netflix, besides Square Enix, Tractor Pants, DJ2 Entertainment and Crystal Dynamics. 

The upcoming Netflix anime is set to follow the trajectory of the Tomb Raider game trilogy. Hayley Atwell will be playing a slightly older version of Lara Croft, succeeding Camilla Luddington in the reboot as well as the other two sequels Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Stephan Vladimir Bugaj, Dmitri M. Johnson, Howard K. Bliss and Jacob Robinson serve as executive producers for the show. 

What is the production status of Netflix’s animated series Tomb Raider?

The screenwriters had concluded writing in May 2021 and Tasha Huo posted the update on her Twitter. 

The writers also posted a number of updates on their social media about how they wrote the script during the coronavirus pandemic.  

What are the characters that will feature on Netflix’s animated series Tomb Raider?

Netflix’s animated series Tomb Raider will most definitely feature the iconic Lara Croft. Hayley Atwell, who is well-known for having played Agent Peggy Carter on various Marvel shows and films, will voice Croft. 

The other character that can be confirmed is Zip who was a part of both the original and the legend timelines. According to his character synopsis, this Zip will be featured from the legends timeline. He is a tech nerd and hacker who will be recruited by Croft’s company, right after he is caught by Croft in the middle of interception the company’s entire database.
