Netflix has snagged the international streaming rights to the high-profile upcoming Hugo Weaving-led Australian drama series The Airport Chaplain, which is ready to touchdown this August.
According to an exclusive Deadline report in July, Netflix has inked a deal for the show’s worldwide rights except Australia, which was originally commissioned by broadcaster SBS and produced by the Sydney-based production company Wooden Horse.
Alongside the Australian broadcaster, Netflix will stream the show day-and-date with SBS, making the series available to a wide range of audiences across 190 countries, marking the biggest deal yet between the streamers.

What is the plot?
Set against the backdrop of a busy airport, The Airport Chaplain is a forthcoming series that follows a non-traditional airport chaplain, Tobias Wallace. Equal parts scruffy and kind-hearted, Tobias is a busy man who has a drawer full of cash and a responsibility to take the terminal’s crises head-on. While he believes the airport cannot do without him, his conduct is met with a reality check when an ambitious new terminal manager, Mira, enters the frame.
From Mira’s perspective, Tobias is a liability, and so she marks his role for redundancy. But as the two have to band together to handle the stressful workplace, Mira has a change of heart.

The Airport Chaplain is being brought to life with a star-studded ensemble, starring Hugo Weaving as Tobias Wallace, Shabana Azeez as Mira, Miranda Anwar as Sister Dolores, Hamish Michael as Troy Cameron, Victoria Haralabidou as Liz Wallace, and Erroll Shand as Lex Pascoe.
Claudia Karvan, Thomas Weatherall, Michael Logo, Nicholas Denton, Claude Jabbour, George Mason, Brenna Harding, Priscilla Doueihy, Ras-Samuel Welda’abzgi, Kavitha Anandasivam, Fanny Hanusin, Echo Palo, Jackson Tozer, Elias Anton, and Arka Das round out the A-list cast.
