Everything about Tom Ellis’ Netflix film 'Players'

Directed by Trish Sie, the highly anticipated Netflix Original rom-com Players is currently knuckle-deep in production. Being filmed in New York City, the film has an interesting lineup and marks the acclaimed producer Marc Platt’s first-ever tryst with a Netflix Original.

Written by Whitt Anderson, the film’s premise seems very promising. With a diverse cast, it surely does have a lot of fun in store for us. Platt has been involved in some of Hollywoods biggest hits, such as La La Land, Bridge of Spies, The Trial of Chicago etc., and thus we expect a lot from this upcoming Netflix film.

Given how Players promises our beloved actresses and actors in an ensemble, we are pretty pumped to watch the film. Here is everything that we know about it to date:

Everything about Tom Ellis’ Netflix film Players

What is the plot of the film?

The film is set to revolve around Gina Rodriguez’s character Mack, a sportswriter based in Chicago, whose entire life has been based on planning successful hook-ups along with her best friend, AKA Damon Wayans Jr.’s Adam.

However, she soon, and quite unexpectedly, falls irrevocably in love with one of her new target candidates played by Tom Ellis and soon begins to question her entire purpose and existence.

Who are the cast members of the film?

The cast for the film is indeed enviable. Lucifer fans, who are probably very sad to know that their favourite hero will no longer return as the Prince of Hell in the acclaimed Netflix series, will be delighted to see Tom Ellis in a new avatar for the Netflix Original.

Joel Courtney, who was last seen as Lee Flynn in The Kissing Booth 3, is set to star in the film alongside Awake’s Gina Rodriguez, Damon Wayans Jr. from New Girl, Augustus Phew as well as well-known YouTuber, Liza Koshy.

What is the status of production?

On 19th July 2021, Tom Ellis posted on Instagram about a beautiful day in New York City and confirmed our speculations about the commencement of filming. Reportedly, filming began on 26th July, 2021, and is scheduled to end on 10th September 2021.

Gina Rodriguez and Liza Koshy were snapped filming on the streets of NYC and posed for the cameras, as shown in the gossip magazine Hola!.

In a recent interview for his film The Kissing Booth 3, Joel Courtney revealed that they were currently in the third week of filming Players

When will it stream on Netflix?

Given the current status of production, a 2021 release date is highly unlikely. However, we are pretty hopeful for a spring or summer release of the film in 2022.
