Cynthia Erivo joins the new Netflix sci-fi film ‘Blink Speed’

An inspiration for people of colour, Cynthia Erivo’s raw talent and infectious on-screen presence have helped in her meteoric rise to acclaim. The two-time Academy Award nominee will now be seen producing and acting in the upcoming Netflix sci-fi film Blink Speed

Based on Eric Brown’s short story, the film is based on the screen adaptation penned by Brown himself and will be co-produced by Matt Jackson, the talent behind The Trial of Chicago 7 and Molly’s Game

Erivo will be seen as a young woman who is suddenly bestowed with a mysterious savant ability after undergoing a near-death experience. This new skill will help her get a deeper insight into her fragmented memory and make sense of the situation.

Erivo became a theatre sensation after her brilliant performance in The Colour Purple that also won her the much-coveted Tony Award. After her phenomenal performance in Harriet that won her an Oscar nomination, she also won an Emmy nomination due to her brilliant portrayal of Aretha Franklin in Genius.

While she is busy completing production alongside Idris Elba for the Netflix project Luther, she will also be seen in the Disney remake of Pinocchio with Tom Hanks. She will also commence production as Elphaba for John Wu’s upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked

Erivo has always voiced her concerns and opinions against diversity and representation in the film industry, inspiring the women of colour with her dynamic words, asking them to put up a fight to sustain themselves along the long journey that still needs to be traversed in terms of equality and equity.

While Netflix has not announced an official release date for Blink Speed, Erivo fans are already excited to see what she has in store for them next.
