Idris Elba teases Netflix film 'Luther' on social media

Idris Elba took to his social media accounts to tease the release of his upcoming Netflix film Luther. Directed by Jaime Payne, the film will see The Harder They Fall star appear as John Luther in Neil Cross’ script.

The film will be based on an acclaimed BBC crime drama that ran for nearly five seasons from 2010 to 2019.

DCI John Luther is a murder detective who finds himself drawn into the darkness of the criminal underbelly he is supposed to investigate. It’s a premise as old as time itself, but Elba and the writers have somehow breathed fresh life into the trope-ridden concept.

The crime drama earned a whooping 11 Emmy nominations besides other accolades, including a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television as well as a Royal Television Society Best Actor Award for Elba’s brilliant performance

Elba will reprise his role yet again in the film and has teased the same by taking to Instagram and Twitter to share a picture of the characteristic uniform and a clapper to signify the return of the detective on film.

He will be joined by Andy Serkis and Cynthia Erivo whose roles remain undisclosed. The film will be produced by Netflix in collaboration with BBC as a part of their deal.

Cross and Elba are also a part of the producing team alongside other heavyweight names like Peter Chernin, Priscilla Paris, Dan Finlay and more.
