Arcane dethrones Netflix’s Squid Game in terms of popularity

After Squid Game and the third season of You took Netflix by a storm for almost more than a month, taking the top spot on the popularity charts, a recent Netflix release has dethroned them. An unlikely title is taking over the first place with its unimaginable viewer ratings.

Ever since its premiere in September of this year, Squid Game has been the highest-grossing series and has overwhelmed the world with the Korean wave. However, the new League of Legends animated Netflix series, Arcane, that premiered over the weekend on November 6, 2021, has now taken Netflix by storm, dethroning Squid Game from the most-popular charts.

It has also become widely popular in China, a region where Netflix is not available.

After The Witcher and DOTA, Arcane was Netflix’s next big foray into the gaming world where they tried retaining the art form and fight sequences from the game, as seen in the trailer

The series dealt with the origin stories of some of the most prolific and well-known characters from the game’s universe. It has various familiar faces across the entertainment industry voicing the League of Legends characters.

Riot Games has added content dedicated to Arcane to all of its games, namely League of Legends, Wild Rift, Valorant and more, to honour the launch of the series.

Squid Game has reigned supreme on the top of the charts for a little less than two months following its September 17 premiere on the streaming giant. The creator of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk has recently confirmed a second season that will likely answer burning questions that fans have.

He said, “There’s been so much pressure, so much demand, and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice.”
