‘All Of Us Are Dead’ sets new record for Korean content on Netflix US

The newest apocalyptic zombie South Korean series, All Of Us Are Dead has helped create a new record for Korean content on Netflix in the United States.

Based on Joo Dong-geun’s 130-episode webtoon, Now At Our School, the series is directed by Korean filmmaker Lee Jae-gyu, the series is based in Hyosan High School where a mysterious virus causes a massive zombie outbreak, compelling a group of students, alienated from the outside world, to desperately fight for their survival against hordes of ravenous zombies.

The series touches on various important and heavyweight issues like teenage conflicts, peer pressure, unnerving academic pressure, bullying, sexual assault, suicide and revenge porn against the backdrop of chaotic teenage conflicts, burgeoning love triangles, betrayal and friendship.

Starring Lomon, Yoon Chan-young, Cho Yi-hyun, Park Ji-hu, Kim Byung-chul and more, this gory and gruesome 12-episode series portrays an epic heartbreaking yet brutal picture of the students’ constant strife for survival.

Ever since its release, the series has topped Netflix charts in more than 25 countries, becoming the second foreign-language show, after Squid Game, to reach the summit on Netflix charts in the US. Following Hwang Dong-hyuk’s unimaginable success with Squid Game in 2021, this zombie series has managed to make history yet again

Korean content viewership in the US has increased by roughly 200 per cent between 2019 and 2021, with other series like Hellbound and My Name making their way to the top of the streaming platform’s most popular charts.

Netflix has ordered more than 20 Korean titles for 2022 to keep up with the growing competition.
