6 Netflix shows to binge so you don't get left behind before new seasons arrive

Netflix has stayed true to its New Year’s resolution of bringing back new seasons to some of the most popular fan-favourite shows. While the new year bears the promise of new Netflix Originals that are indeed pretty interesting, 2022 will also mark the arrival of shows like Stranger Things and Russian Doll that fans have eagerly been waiting for.

2021 was an extremely successful year for Netflix. From the South Korean Original Squid Game amassing unimaginable success to the greatest heist in history finally coming to an end with the intense finale of Money Heist, Netflix has had insane revenues and viewership data, reaching its peak. With an exciting line-up of content for 2022, Netflix will have an equally promising and fruitful year ahead.

With the release of the second season of Bridgerton and the fifth season of Elite, the streaming service has already begun adding new seasons to pre-existing popular shows. However, there has been quite a time gap between the release of the previous seasons and the old ones that might make the fans a bit clueless, leading to the loss of allure. As of now, we decided to focus on shows that will be arriving in April and all the way to June 2022.

To help you through that gruelling process, we have listed the six Netflix shows you must binge on right now so that you don’t get left behind with the release of the new season:

6 Netflix shows to binge before new seasons arrive

Better Call Saul April 18th

The fifth season of Better Call Saul aired in April before the sixth season, which will air in two distinct halves, the first of which will arrive on April 19th, 2022. Better Call Saul is a part of the massive Breaking Bad universe built by Vince Gilligan. From the legendary Walter White and his associate Jesse Pinkman in the five-season series, which is arguably considered to be the greatest TV show of all time to the film El Camino, Better Call Saul deals with White’s go-to lawyer, the fast-talking and witty Saul Goodman and his escapades.

Starring Bob Odenkirk as the titular Saul, the sixth season will reportedly feature “more physical and emotional violence” than ever. Saucy and intense, it will most likely have some of the most twisted endings. Interestingly, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, who played the iconic characters White and Pinkman, will make a return in the sixth season, as confirmed by the showrunners.

Russian Doll – April 20th

Russian Doll is returning for a second season on April 20th, 2022. After years of bated anticipation, fans of this Emmy-winning show will finally glimpse into an even more bizarre “wild ride” featuring Natasha Lyonne as Nadia Vulvakov and Charlie Barnett as Alan Zaveri. The duo will be joined by a series of other actors, namely Annie Murphy, Greta Lee, Sharlto Copley, Elizabeth Ashley etc.

The trippy trailer that the show released shows the duo caught in a never-ending time loop once again. Since the events of the first season were last witnessed in 2019, viewers should jog their memories by watching the episodes yet again to understand the idea of mysterious portals through New York City subways which seems to be an integral part of the second season, besides a famed treasure.

Ozark – April 29th

Starring Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Sofia Hublitz, Julia Garner, Felix Solis, Alfonso Herrera, Skylar Gaertner, Charlie Tahan, Lisa Emery and more, Ozark released the first part of its fourth and final season in January. The Emmy-winning fan-favourite crime series will finally bid a bittersweet adieu to the Byrde family on April 29th, 2022. Since there has been quite a gap between the two events, fans must try watching all the three seasons and the seven episodes from the first part of the final season to stay up to date with the events.

Recently, Bill Dubuque’s show released a trailer that promises a gruesome and bloody end to the saga as well as an epic showdown. With seven final episodes, the trailer features a series of montages, including the Byrdes having a serious and provoking conversation and Ruth Langmore supposedly shooting Javi in broad daylight. Intense!

Stranger Things – May 27th

The fourth season of Stranger Things will be dark and intense. The showrunners Duffer brothers confirmed it. Shawn Levy, the producer, teased it, and the rest of the cast, namely Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink, Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour and others constantly reinstated the same. The fourth season took quite some time to come to fruition due to its epic scale of production. While the first part of the fourth season is scheduled for a May 27th, 2022 release, the second batch of episodes will launch five weeks later, on July 1st, 2022.

The Duffer brothers had called the season the “most challenging season yet but the most rewarding one”. The fourth season will pick up six months after the battle of the third season and has teased an incredibly “vulnerable time” when a “new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces”. The threat will be “presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down”. The trailer is pretty intense and given the huge time gap between the third and fourth season, fans should binge on all three seasons of the show before the penultimate season makes a return.

Peaky Blinders – June 10th

With peaked caps and hidden razor blades, Steven Knight’s 2013 BBC crime series became quite the sensation on Netflix as it chronicled the escapades of the notorious Black Country Gang in Birmingham, headed by the iconic and ambitious Thomas Shelby. After an excruciatingly long wait after the sixth and final season aired on BBC recently, Peaky returns. The show has suffered greatly due to the pandemic, following the untimely demise of actress Helen McCrory who played an integral part in the show. After BBC aired the final episode, which is a 90-minute feature-length-like episode, the show will air its final season on Netflix on June 10th, 2022.

A great deal of catching up needs to be done before one views the sixth season. The sixth season will venture into the timeline of the Second World war and trace the journey of the Shelbys amidst rising fascism and other political tensions. The extensive ensemble cast includes  Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Anya Taylor-Joy, Sophie Rundle, Paul Anderson, Sam Claflin, Finn Cole, Stephen Graham, Amber Anderson etc.

The Umbrella Academy – June 22nd

The third season of The Umbrella Academy will pick up from the epic cliffhanger of the second season. The second season showed the Umbrella Academy going back home to celebrate their apparent win, only to discover how they had introduced a new timeline that introduces the members of the Sparrow Academy. According to the recent teaser, the two groups will supposedly bump heads before coming together to fight against an inevitable disaster.

Created in 2019 by Steve Blackman and Jeremy Slater, this top-rated show will feature an ensemble cast. The older cast, including Elliot Page, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Robert Sheehan, David Castaneda, Tom Hopper, Colm Feore and more, shall make a return. New faces like Justin Cornwell, Britney Oldford, Genesis Rodriguez, Cazzie David, Javon Walton and Jake Epstein shall join them. The new characters’ names include Marcus, Fei, Alphonso, Solane and Jayme. The show has also been renewed for a fourth season.
