5 best films to watch on Netflix in April 2022

The Bubble (Judd Apatow)

The film will release on Netflix on April 1st, 2022.

Judd Apatow’s upcoming comedy flick will feature a talented ensemble, namely Karen Gillian, Fred Armisen Keegan-Michael Key, Leslie Mann, Kate McKinnon, Guz Khan, Pedro Pascal, Peter Serafinowicz, Iris Apatow, David Duchovny and Maria Bakalova. The film was inspired by the production of the upcoming 2022 Jurassic Park Dominion film that saw the actors living in a hotel together to complete production during the pandemic.

Jurassic Park is named Cliff Beasts in the film and prevails as a highly successful film franchise whose sixth instalment sees a group of actors travel to a closed English film set during the pandemic and live there to commence shooting. Hilarity, chaos and madness ensue!

Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story (archival footage)

This harrowing documentary is scheduled for an April 6th, 2022 premiere.

Jimmy Savile was one of the UK’s most popular TV show hosts who hid his ugly sexual misconduct and paedophilia behind a facade of philanthropy. The documentary will provide a deep dive into the character of this distinguished and prolific sexual predator and discover how he managed to fool the country for decades.

Once proclaimed the “national treasure”, Savile even received a knighthood for his contribution. The trailer of the documentary is pretty disturbing as he ominously tells the camera, “you really are missing something. In fact, you’re missing everything.” The observation almost seems to be a taunting remark as his apparent brilliance indeed blinded the world.

Silverton Siege (Mandla Walter Dube)

Silverton Siege will premiere on April 27th, 2022.

Starring Thabo Rametsi, Noxolo Dlamini and Stefan Erasmus, and Arnold Vosloo, the film is an action thriller with searing political commentary. It is inspired by real-life events that sparked the ‘Free Mandela’ movement globally. The narrative, embedded in historical accuracy, is a brilliant reality check that talks about the value of life, racism and other important socio-political factors.

Set in 1980s South Africa, a freedom fighter trio find themselves sparring with the state as their sabotage mission unwittingly transforms into a violent bank hostage situation. As one of the freedom fighters narrates the gruesome events of watching his parents get gunned down by the police, the trio is seen demanding the release of Nelson Mandela in lieu of letting the hostages leave.

Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood (Richard Linklater)

The film will release on Netflix on April 1st, 2022.

Linklater used the rotoscope technique in Waking Life and will be seen employing the same technique to make live-action shots look animated. This coming-of-age sci-fi film stars Glenn Powell, Jack Black, Josh Wiggins and Zachary Levi and is inspired by Linklater’s childhood experience. The trailer reeks of nostalgia, sci-fi elements and brilliant visuals, as is quintessential to all of Linklater’s films.

The film will feature two different perspectives in the wake of the historic 1969 Apollo 11 landing on the moon. Set in the suburbs of Houston in Texas, the film will feature a child’s carefree imagination as he dreams of travelling from the quiet suburbia to the fantastical realm of the moon.

Along for the Ride (Sofia Alvarez)

Along for the Ride is slated to release on April 22nd, 2022.

“This is my chance to explore who I want to be before the rest of my life starts” is how the trailer for the upcoming coming-of-age film ends. Based on Sarah Dessen’s novel, the film stars Emma Pasarow and Belmont Camelli in lead roles as they embark on epic nighttime adventures.

Auden is on the verge of going to college and has lived a sheltered life with her mother. In the sleepy seaside town of Colby, she visits her father and meets the elusive and fellow insomniac Eli with whom she embarks on a variety of adventures, experiencing fun and madness like never before.
