While Netflix has been facing a sort of financial crisis due to the massive subscriber exodus and falling stock prices, the streamer has been consistently releasing brand new content in May 2022 which has found its way into the global charts.
Every week Best of Netflix will bring you the list of the ten most popular series on Netflix across the globe. From new releases to old favourites, these are the shows storming the charts and generating conversations on social media.
Everybody has been talking about Ozark following the release of the second part of the fourth and final season finished on April 29th. This week marks its tenth appearance on the chart, and so far, it has been streamed for over a whopping 48.6 million hours.
Starring Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Sofia Hublitz, Julia Garner and others, the show has gained a reputation for its gruesome violence and brutal scenes. The drama’s epic finale delivers on that front and is full of bloodshed.
The seventh season of Grace and Frankie, too, has been viewed for nearly 12.26 million hours. Currently occupying the sixth spot, this season bids a bittersweet adieu to the heartwarming friendship portrayed by Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin over the last few seasons. It has been a firm favourite among Netflix viewers, touching chords with its commentary on friendship, love, ageism and life.
Chris Van Dusen and Shonda Rhimes’ Bridgerton season two has been occupying the fourth spot, dominating charts for the eighth time in a row. Viewed for over 16 million hours this week, the second season is based on Julia Quinn’s novel The Viscount Who Loved Me and revolves around the intense romance between the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony, and the fiery Kate Sharma.
Starring Jonathan Bailey, Simone Ashley, Phoebe Devor, Nicola Coughlan and others, the second season has toned down on the sex scenes while presenting an intense portrait of stolen glances, searing touches and forbidden yearning.
Despite its shocking sexual violence scene that fetishises and glamourises rape, the limited series Anatomy of a Scandal has occupied the tenth spot. Occupying the charts for the fifth time in a row, the controversial show, dealing with both personal and professional scandals, has been viewed for over nine million hours.
Among new releases, Savage Beauty has taken over the ninth spot with a streaming count of 10.6 million hours. A part of Netflix’s growing African content, this pulpy series focuses on the art of vengeance when a woman enters a powerful global beauty mogul family to seek revenge.
