10 most popular films on Netflix this week: June 2022

Netflix is seemingly undeterred by the massive loss of subscribers and flailing stock prices over the last quarter as it keeps adding new titles to its shelves in June 2022, desperately craving the next big success that can help cover its losses.

Every week at Best of Netflix, we bring you the ten most popular Netflix films across the globe.

Directed by Jeremiah Zaga, the new Adam Sandler sports film, Hustle has topped the charts and has been viewed for nearly 85 million hours. Also starring Queen Latifah, Robert Duvall and Ben Foster, the film features Sandler as a jaded basketball coach who travels to Spain and comes across real-life Utah Jazz player Juanco Herangomez. He believes the troubled Spaniard can be the following great NBA legend and embarks on a tumultuous journey.

Produced by Chris Hemsworth, the Australian-American film Interceptor has appeared on the charts for the second time this week. Directed by Matthew Reilly, the film sees Hemsworth’s wife, Elsa Pataky, as an Army captain. She must use her years of expertise and training to combat terrorist attacks on the remote missile interceptor she helms. The film has been viewed for 40 million hours with a surprise uncredited cameo from Hemsworth himself.

Upon its release on June 10th, 2022, the computer-animated comedy Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness has garnered a viewership of nearly 9.8 million. Based on Chris Grine’s Chickenhare graphic novel series, the 91-minute film features a wide variety of voice actors. Netflix viewers have seemingly taken to the juvenile yet delightful premise, which sees the half-chicken half-hare hero embark on a series of adventures despite various obstacles lying in his way.

For the fourth time this week, Victoria Justice and Adam Demos’s film A Perfect Pairing has appeared on the charts with a viewing time of 7 million hours. Demos became popular on Netflix for showing off his well-endowed appendage in Netflix’s Sex/Life and was notoriously called the “shower guy”. The general feel-good nature of the film is similar to that of Hallmark films.

Many older classics seem to have made their way into the top 10s this week, including Mimi Leder’s 1998 disaster film Deep Impact which sees the US President gearing up his fortresses to fight doomsday.

Other classics include Sylvestor Stallone as the iconic Rambo in the 2019 film Rambo: Last Blood and Tom Cruise’s 2011 action thriller, Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol, also starring Jeremy Renner, Lea Seydoux, Simon Pegg and Paula Patton, among others.
