It’s a tough old landscape for the bosses of Netflix right now. A fall in subscribers is one thing, but the news that the streaming service will be cracking down on shared subscriptions has left a bad taste in many people’s mouths. But while the backstage of the event may feel a little ropey, what’s going on under the spotlight is still of high quality. Below, we’re checking out the most popular films of the week.
Let us first pay some attention to Sing 2 and The Man From Toronto, who have both been in the charts for five weeks running, no mean feat considering the competition. The Man From Toronto continues to thrill audiences with Woody Harrelson and Kevin Hart gathering hearts and minds, this week accruing another 8 million hours of viewing.
The same can be said for 12 Strong, CHIPS and with nearly 10 million hours of viewing under its belt. Persuasion, the Jane Austen adaptation, is another title that seems to be gathering audiences every week, this week bringing in 30 million hours of viewing alone.
The Sea Beast is number two on this week’s list. From the esteemed creators of some of your favourite animations, this film has been melting more hearts than ever, grabbing nearly 35 million hours of viewing. However, this week was all about one title and one title only; The Gray Man.
Starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, the movie was always likely to be a big-budget blockbuster, but with nearly 90 million hours of viewing in the first week alone, we think this piece may continue to gather audiences. The skinny on this film is that if you’re expecting anything other than witty remarks between gun battles and explosions, then you best move along.
As well as The Gray Man, there are new entries in the form of Daughter of the Wolf and Clean, which both amassed over 11 million hours of viewing to make them fourth and fifth, respectively.
