‘Worst Ex Ever’: Where is Wade Wilson now?
Worst Ex Ever returned to Netflix this week with a chilling round of reminders that the reality is far more hazardous and stranger than fiction, especially with the case of Wade Wilson, AKA the “Deadpool Killer.”
The second season of the hit Netflix documentary throws light on many notorious subjects. However, Wade Wilson’s story has left viewers at a loss for words due to his intense ruthlessness and brutality.
The subject of Worst Ex Ever earned the moniker for his unsettling appearance, with a face full of tattoos and his smug courtroom persona. While his story was the talk of the town long before Netflix shed light on it, since the season premiere, the audience has been unable to help but wonder where he is now. But to get there, let’s take a step back to learn who he is and what his trail of crimes is.
Born on May 20th, 1994, Wade Steven Wilson is a Florida native and a convicted double murderer who gained national notoriety during his 2024 trials. Although the media gave him the moniker “Deadpool Killer” due to his facial tattoos and the name that he shares with the chaotic Marvel character, unlike the fictional entity, Wilson is neither a hero nor are his actions heroic.
On October 7th, 2019, Wilson unleashed carnage in Cape Coral, Florida. After meeting 35-year-old Kristine Melton at a bar, he reportedly accompanied her home when they left the venue. Back at Melton’s place, while she was sleeping, he asphyxiated her.
That same day, Wilson ran into 43-year-old Diane Ruiz, a mother of two who worked as a bartender. He baited her into a car he had originally stolen from Melton’s place after killing her. After luring her in, Wilson strangled Ruiz as well. However, that’s not all that he did. In the courtroom, the Deadpool Killer made a chilling confession that he drove over her body several times afterwards.
The first person who learned about his crimes was his biological father, to whom Wilson had confessed the crimes. His father immediately rang the cops, but when Wilson was taken in custody, he told authorities that he would “do it again.”
The Florida native was given a death sentence in August 2024 for murdering Melton and Ruiz. The sentencing gained national attention as one of the first high-profile applications of Florida’s 2023 death penalty statute, which empowers judges to impose capital punishment even in the absence of a unanimous jury recommendation.
As of now, Wilson is allegedly on death row in Florida, amidst an intense legal battle to repeal his death sentence.
